Warn winch problem

Post by Chook »

Would anyone have any idea why my winch has just stopped? It is getting power to it and also I cannot flick over the free wheeling handle to let it free spin. Was in the middle of a recovery and whilst I had the switch to wind the cable back in it just stopped? Any ideas or similar problems?

Usually solenoids, try bypassing them, if it still doesn't power up might be the motor, does it work in either direction?

You won't be able to get it out of gear because the gear set is loaded up, try manually moving the drum only need a cm or so and it will come out of gear.

Motors are cheap these days anyway under $500 probably cheaper on eBay. Choose between

4.6hp

6.0hp

7.2hp

Mine did same thing. If solenoid is clicking the motor internally has shorted out. From rust and water and mud.

I got a 4.6 on mine as I can't fit any bigger in my bar

The warn xp's have a habit of the brush holders going rusty and jamming the brushes,

Easy as to pull them out, pry the holder open a bit and lube them up. Will cost ya nothing and easy to do.
