Dave is this targeted at our rebuild , If so is the 20 points for the whole w/end or each stage . If you have a buggy class then why the 20 points ?. We have guards but the grill in s/s not Nissan If we change the grill to a Nissan is this ok

No it is not due to your vehicle build.
The 20 point penalty is for the weekend.
All the Classes run the same course and are eligable for the same prizes.

Hi all just wondering what type of GPS people run in these comps. Is a handheld Garmin sufficient or do we need something bigger and better.
Thanks
Thanks

Yes you could, you have to start somewhere.
But you will find the bigger the better and the real keen teams use 2.
This round will not have any GPS stages.

Re: Round 2 - ARB XWC - "The Mountain" - Manilla 21-23 June
Another great day down here.
Nice and warm - again NOT.
Troy & I checked out the event area today, little bit wet. Could prove to be a bit slippery in areas.
Nice long speed run (for here), which will give Kevon/Scott a chance to clear some more trees.
Saturdays SS will all be in the old gully with a lot of changes.
Expect multiple winches in all SS, both back & forwards.
Sunday will have SS10 as a super SS in the original Gully & SS9 will be on the far side on the the camp side.
Cheers

Re: Round 2 - ARB XWC - "The Mountain" - Manilla 21-23 June
Well what a weekend, there was some great driving by all competitors and none saying that was enough.
Started on Friday 14th when Troy Metcalfe and myself headed off to Manilla, NSW.
Arriving Saturday, setting up our room & the ARB XWC Office at The Royal Hotel, trip into Tamworth for supplies and gear that was forgotten we settled down for dinner.
Sunday was the start of the set up at "The Mountain", walking around the complete sight I decided to use our original gully with a lot of twists in what we had done before.
By Tuesday afternoon most SS were marked out and the remainder were worked out in my head.
I was joined on Monday by John Leeson (Official Catering Chief) and Tuesday by Stephen Kelly.
Friday afternoon saw 9 Competitors front for Round 2 ARB XWC. Tamworth 4WD Club members, Officials and spectators slowly arriving.
Friday night SS kicked off with the usual speed run with the pace being set by Cam Gale & Col Warnenken in their GU Patrol with a winning time of 5.05.97 followed closley by Phil Bell & Iain Hughes in their Toyota 40 Series in 5.20.65.
SS2 & 3 were longer run then years past. 2 cars started a minute apart on these. Bad luck went to Chris Cahill & Nick Bail with a flat tyre, faulty winch and other problems in SS3 resulting in a DNF for that SS, they entered SS2 with no winch working plus one All Terrain tyre fitted to drive the exit, guess what DNF & 25 penalty points leaving them with a grand score of -5 for that SS. Andrew McFarlane & Mark Calder driving a Landrover were the winners of both these SS. 2nd place went to Cam & Col in SS2 while SS3 second place was Dave Burrows & Howard Crossley (Jumbo) in the Farmtruck.
Saturday morning saw the codrivers walking a couple of the SS. We started on SS7, then SS 8 followed by SS6 while the last for Saturday were SS4 & 5 running at the same time, dark crept in quickly resulting in the remaining Teams to finish off first up on Sunday Morning.
SS4 was the one for penalties with 4 of the 5 Teams that completed the SS under DNF time receiving penalties. The clear run was done by Andrew & Mark in the Landie.
SS5 was a 3 winch SS with a little bit of a run to stretch the legs of the vehicles, Cam & Col recovering from a bad run on SS7 in the morning missed one of the winch hills, DNF scored for them. Fastest time over this SS was Andrew & Mark in the Landie.
SS6 consisted of a change of direction winch, a tight right exit, a gate on the entry to the gully and an exit with a "Barbers Pole" in it. DNF's:- Dave & Jumbo (CV), Em & Katie (power steering), Kevin & Scott (CV), Matt & Peter (time).
SS7 was the fun one, while walking the codrivers around I joked "at this point you have broken your leg, the driver has to do all the work and change the wheel" after I saw the smiles on their faces it became a part of the SS and they were also instructed not to tell the drivers. The look of surprise on the drivers faces was priceless. DNF's on this SS were:- Emily Taylor & Katie Ireland leaving all their tools & jack under the Suzuki of Chris & Nics while they carried out repairs. The new boys on the block of Matt Holgate & Peter Ford having one odd wheel nut on each corner with no wheel spanner to fit the odd one out. Kevin Gorrick & Scott Archer failing on the winch exit with charging problems, Chris & Nic after the wheel change rolling on the top of the hill while trying to do a reverse winch. And for the biggest stuff up Col pointing Cam out the wrong exit, even tho there was a bloody big read arrow pointing them straight ahead.
SS8 was again some length to use the power and 3 possible winch hills to test the codrivers & winch set ups. The last exit saw a few vehicle drive it. Fastest time was Dave & Jumbo followed closley by Andrew & Mark in the Landie.
Sunday morning saw an early start with a couple of vehicles still to run SS 4 & 5. Col Warneken was a little worse for wear after a going to the RSL and joining in the Karoke singing, he was a very sick puppy in the morning and for the rest of the day. But managed to look half alive when he had to drive Cam home. Stephen O'Donnell took over as codriver.
SS9 was a long run with 2 winches in, the hard luck story for the day was Matt and Peter in the GU getting caught about 3 meters from the start between 2 trees - DNF. Fastest time was Andrew & Mark followed 5 seconds later by Cam & Steve.
SS10 last for the day. Possible 5 winches, plus a punch to winch to was what was installed for the last SS. This created a few DNF's for failing to punch cards correctly, Kevin & Scott could not get to the punch and the same happened to Cam & Steve, but Steve tried to be smart & pulled the card off blaming a faulty zipp tire, guess what DNF recorded. Paul & Nathan managed along with Emily & Katie drove the second last winch wall. Chris & Nic kept trying but were unlucky enough to roll again in this SS.
It was a great weekend, I will be back next year.
Big thanks to my naming sponsor ARB, Exedy Clutches, Godfrey Wenness who is good enough to give me the use of "The Mountain" for the event. Tamworth 4WD Club, Gordon & Josh Short, John Leeson, Stephen Kelly, Graeme Mackay, Tom & Vickie from The Royal Hotel, Annie, 4WDTV, Dirtcomp Magazine, Shantyl Lye, John McCredie & his sons and to my son Troy Metcalfe.
