Blue hard top mid wheelbase

Post by uninformed »

Hey all,

I was recently on Gumtree looking for winches and came across a GQ (I think) 2 door hard top mid wheel base patrol. Im not sure if these even exist? Now it could have just been a normal LWB with the rear end reduced in length, but it also could have been a custom job. Im thinking the WB was less than the 118 or so of the LWB... Does anyone know this vehicle? I think it was in Vic?? It is probably the best proportionally looking 4wd I have seen. Not much rear overhang, not too long or short WB and just a good looking truck all round. I wish I saved some pics.

It'll be a short wheel base with a wheel base extension. Just make sure its been engineered properly and it should be a very capable vehicle. Its a pretty popular conversion in the comp scene. Don't be scared of it but make sure you check all the work is up to your standards and you'll be happy.

yes a bit like that pic....but im thinking a little more square sided etc. Its definitely a coil sprung model. No im not looking to buy it. Just was looking for pics again to get ideas of proportions. How do they extend the wheel base? Cut/shunt chassis or move coil mounts and re link?

Move the coil and shock mounts and use longer links. 300mm is the most common extension length. If you do this then you'll need to do something about the fuel tank as well as you'll take up a lot of room used for the factory tank. A lot of these guys run on straight gas or use a sub tank to carry a bit of fuel.

Hey Simo. Do the number plates up there have a dot in the middle or is that an LPG sticker? I can't remember if they have dots in the center.

If they run petrol they normally run a sub tank or for comp trucks they even just run a fuel cell. Most run straight gas.

Toughnut, in QLD we have the little dot between numbers and letters. Like the blue one pictured, the LPG sticker is bigger than the dot.

Thanks for the help guys, If i wasnt tarred with the Rover brush, id be in a Nissan.
