80 vs 100 series swivel hubs.
Dear Landcruiser tech heads,
I'm putting together a front hybrid landcruiser 80 axle and am looking for some compatibility info regarding the 100 series swivel hub mating to 80 series knuckles.
I am locked into using 80 series knuckles and want to use FJ80 Longfields.
My question is, can I mate 100 series swivel hubs, stubs, hubs, rotors and calipers to the 80 knuckles? And if so, will the longfields still fit? I can manufacture drive flanges if needed.
As a secondary benefit, I would get the larger 100 series brakes.
As a side note, 80 series knuckles are machined with 13 degrees of kingpin inclination. 80 knuckles have 14 degrees of offset between the kingpin bearing journals and the stub axle mounting face. This results in 1 degree of positive camber(yes positive, meaning the wheels lean out at the top)
I can only put this down to car manufacturers wanting vehicles to have a tendancy to understeer before oversteer(less driver skill is required to recover from understeer, making the car safer for unskilled drivers)
I would love to hear that 100 series runs 12 degrees offset between kingpin and stub axle face, resulting in a combined 1 degree of negative camber, sharpening up the front end considerably.
Anybodies input would be appreciated.

You can fit 100 series pads in 80 series calipers post 93 by removing anti rattle plates and she will stop like a pro. No idea on comparability but if it doesn'twork out you got the brakes covered.

swivel hubs should be the same.
as far as im aware the housing and swivel hubs are the same.
its the stubs hubs and brakes that change.
better off running the 80 stubs and hubs as rebuild kits are cheaper as the 80 doesnt run the brass bushes in the stubs.
and long field drive flanges will bolt on

I've done a bit more research and as mentioned above, swivel hubs are interchangable. So are stub axles but not hubs
This means that i will not be able to get the camber change i was after.( it was a long shot anyway)
With swivel hubs being interchangable, it means i will be able to bolt 100 series calipers up to the swivel hub, but then ill need a 322mm rotor to reach the pads in the 100 calipers. The 100 series rotors are 5 bolt and a slightly different height to the 80 series rotors(late 80 rotors are 311ODx32Thickx58high.100 are 322x32x65 I may be able to redrill the 100 rotors out to 6 bolt and shim the caliper into position if it needs it.
Alternatively i could try use 150 prado rotors at 338x32x68.5, these are 6 bolt and might bolt up to the hub.
I'd need to make a dogbone to offset the caliper to suit the huge prado rotors. Imagine the stopping with 338mm front rotors!!!

Will avm hubs stand up to abusive driving once longfield hub gears are installed? or should i just go for drive flanges and put up with the accellerated wear on longfields driving to and from the high country.

ive got the AVM hubs with longfield hub gears in my lux and havent had a issue yet. only running 35s with a 2.8 but i keen a pair of drive flanges in the tool box of the ute icase i ever do a hub. easy change on the trak if need be85lux wrote:Thanks guys.

Sorry, I meant Aisin hubs, not AVM. Longfield hub gears are for Aisin.

In my 70 series I havent had a problem with the hub gear on longfields, though I have broken a few of the sliding lock gears in the aisin hub, which I believe are now available cromo too.

i spotted that trail gear sell both inner and outer gears. maybe that would be the go.
