Full Hydro Setup

Okay this might be a dumb question

Was wondering how do you decide what size ram to use when setting up full hydro steering?
8" 9" 10"?
How do you measure it?

Ive got a solid hilux

And since I've got you all here whats involved in setting up a rear steering setup?

It depends on how much steering your knuckles can handle. Im by no means a guru. The ram also needs to be matched to an orbital valve steering box. The higher flowing the orbital valve box, the less turns if the steering wheel it takes lock to lock. From what I've seen. A full hydro, needs a high pressure pump as well an 8" ram will be fine for lux diffs With high steer. But if you have long steering arms, you will need a longer ram.

Put a mark on your tierod now, and measure how much it moves relative to the diff when you turn the wheel lock to lock

Turn full lock. Make 2 marks inline, a mark on the track rod and a mark on the diff housing. Go full opposite lock and measure distance.

Can I ask why full hydro? If you are running Tyres big enough to need full hydro then lux diffs won't handle it.

Ive got a hilux truggy with 37" (comp only)
At the moment its got hyrdo assist
That's on its way out
So thought I would upgrade

A friend of mine had a 75 on 37's with chromos which handled the tyre size quite well. Managed to destroy the steering box in a comp so there's always argument to upgrade parts if you're already replacing those components as it is. If it's in the budget then why not make it bulletproof?

True, my questioning was because I run sticky 37's and standard steering has been ok obviously not great, thus I may eventually go hydro assist
Lux gear is ok on 37's I know heaps of guys getting away with it.
If you step up to 40's or bigger it WON'T last in a full truck, that's why I asked if it was a buggy.

If you have to replace what u have I understand reasoning all depends on what it was going in that's why I asked.
75 cv's and diffs are bigger then the lux so driveline would cope better.

Hydro steer makes it super easy to steer.
Unless its a road car I wouldn't ever go assist
