Inner Axle Oil seal pops out of place - wtf?
Hi All,
This is the second time this has happened to me. First time was on the driver's side, this time its on the passenger's.
Typical diff oil leaking from the swivel hub housing. Right, must be time to replace the inner axle oil seal. As I do the occasional deep muddy water crossing I expect to do this once a year.
But this is where it gets odd. As i pull out the CV joint & axle the bloody inner axle oil seal comes with it!
Now i am thinking it could be the fact that this axle has had so many rebuilds that the seal is failing to be held inplace in the axle? Last time this happened i broke out the locite not so permanent super glue as a bit of extra insurance it wouldn't happen again.
The pressure inside the diff shouldn't get so high that it starts blowing seals out of place ?
Any thoughts? Time for new axle housing?
Thanks.

What oil seals are you using?
Have had this problem with non genuine crank seals on Hilux diesels. A couple at work failed and when we removed the balancer the seal came with it.
Cheap non japanese seals.

The old Luxy was fun, but with a young family comes great responsibility.
So I swapped it for a 60. Should be able to take the whole mob camping, plus I got an extra gear, 2 less cylinders and A/C.

Patrol. Non genuine seals. Usually whatever Repco is handing out.

Never had a problem in the Nissans with after market seals (drive line).
Second what Bru 21 said.
Are you using a special tool or the correct size socket to knock them in?

Checked breather hose and fitting into the diff. No issues with air flow. Must be poor set of seals. Anyways thanks for the suggestions. Going to dab a bit of locite bearing fit medium strength compound on the seal.
