Hydro ram assist 60 Cruiser

Post by Ricko »

Hey guys, I have asked this in general, because I would assume guys have used 60 diffs in trucks other than Toyotas.

I need to get into gear and get my steering bits from the states before the dollar goes completely pear shaped. I am using 60 diffs under a 45 ute with a 12HT motor. I want to run hydro ram assist. The steering box will be 60 series also.

I think the easiest option is gear from Trailgear. Although most kits are for Hiluxs, it should be easily adapted to cruiser?

1. What length ram do I need? I have been told 6", but prior to dismantling, I thought I would need 8". I don't want to be stuck with a smaller turning circle.

2. Will the pump kit with mounting brackets etc be easy enough to modify to the 12HT motor? Or should I just get the pump and completely make a bracket?

I have done plenty of research over the years and have either never found these answers, or I forgot them. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

6" will be fine. Where you mount the ram in relation to the centre if the diff determinations the length of the ram needed.
Dave camp used a 6" ram on his Dana60 for years with 40+ degrees.

Buy a pump and make a bracket.

Go see Bud's Customs, his a Trail Gear dealer.

Completely off the track from the original question - Can a 4 link setup be used on the front diff with a steering box? Or do you get bump steer?

Is the best solution for a link setup a 3 link + panhard when using a steering box? Remembering it has to be within the realms of shed hack and can't require significant engineering prowess.

4 link with a drag link no, as there is no lateral diff movement making for bump/cycle steer.

If you have a drag link you really must have a pahnard.

Very reasonable pricing on importing Trail Gear stuff. Makes it a lot easier than trying to arrange it yourself.

As always, Buddy is a very helpful bloke too.
