Hey quick question, I've been putting up with a annoying vibration in my lux for a while and can't seem to find the cause.
I decided to fit my spare tail shaft (brand new balanced) but incidentally it was 40mm too big, BUT I was thinking of phasing in tailshafts and noticed the shaft was out of phase by 1 spline (Toyota 93 lux if you didn't know)
Would this cause a vibration?
It is reasonable, if its not I'm thinking maybe I didn't centre the clutch properly..

Still got the 2 piece tail shaft, because those center bearings flog out easy, best is to fit a 1 piece shaft to it,

yes it will as mine had that vibration especially on start off up an incline.. I never new about this till i went and got a center bearing done at the diff shop. He said straight away after a drive around the block that it was out of phase. Once done it's smooth as

Nah it's a 1 piece, but I took it to work this morn and the vibration is still there and slowly getting worse.
It's a strange one the vibration comes on around 70km/h and vibrates hard around 90-100km/h under accelleration, you can back off and it'll stay for a sec and nearly go away but it's getting pretty bad now, not sure if it will make the trip out to mudgee for OL challenge but I don't know what it is.
Has anyone had a clutch out of alignment before.

If the clutch plate is out of alignment u wont get the gearbox back on, unless off course your spigot bearing has disappeared.
Maybe the bearing is rooted?

Cranky please correct me if I'm wrong but the spigot only comes into play when you have your foot on the clutch, when the clutch is engaged the front shaft and crank turn at the same speed .
Seeing as it sounds like it is speed related it might be tailshaft (phase/ alignment/balance/uni's/dented) maybe yoke (not sitting square /loose bolts) or heaven forbid something inside the box ?

Yeh its when its engaged, the tail shaft was out of phase by one spline but I corrected it, and bolts are tight coz I removed/reinstalled it.
All vibrations started when I changed box (g52with chain drive) to a g52 with a gear drive..
Thought engine mounts but they look ok..

All the bolts holding the shaft are the same size .. I had an intermediate shaft on a Suzuki between the gearbox and t\csae that vibrated like a bastard at certain speeds.
turned out one bolt was a bit longer with a larger nut .. difference of perhaps a couple of grams .. was enough to be readily felt in the vehicle

Yeh there all the same, but when I was at the OL challenge i was following my wife around as she was driving the truck and I was driving the prado, I noticed the rear shaft had a reasonable amount of runout, so either the shaft is bent or it was poorly setup when made.
Is it normal (dont crucify me on this) for the shafts to have runout and they balance accordingly or they should run 100% true?

AFAIK they need to be true or they could get a whip happening at speed, I can't see how a bowed or bent shaft could be balanced

On a work car a tailshaft was replaced "out bush" and the vehicle had a vibration that couldn't be found ...turn's out that the flange on the gearbox and the yoke (?) on the tailshaft self align via a protrusion on the yoke this was too large on the yoke, the fella fitting the shaft did the bolts up flexing the flange and yoke together and until it was unbolted impossible to tell .
We fitted the old yoke to the shaft, replaced the flange and happy day's

Well turns out tailshaft was bent, you couldn't see it in the shaft but was around 5-6mm out (as a guess)- shaft is 1390 long
Local guy put it in his lathe (he does them all the time) and said 'I have no idea how it ran in your ute as it shook the shit out of everything at 1000rpm', he straightened n balanced it and am still yet to drive on it but for $80 I'm pretty happy..
Hopefully this puts the vibration to rest..
