Designfab Subaru caliper rear disc conversion on YN67 issue
Hi all,
Just done the rear Subaru leone calipers with GQ rotors on the back of my 86 lux and encountered an issue. I've pressed off the old drum backing plate, replaced wheel bearings, retainers, seals etc but when I slide the axle back into the diff housing I encounter a problem. Without the backing plate, there is a 5mm gap between the bearing housing and the flange on the diff (I can see the rubber oring thru the gap).
Just wondering how to rectify this? Its not simply a matter of bolting the axles in and ignoring the gap. Is it a case of having a spacer made up or trimming down the shaft end of the axles?! Bit disappointed so far as it had nothing like this mentioned in the design fab instructions,

Do you have a locker? Does it have a thrust block?
GQ air lockers do and can cause issues doing disc conversion!

Doesn't have lockers, standard diffs as far as I was aware, and unsure what you mean about a 'thrust lock'? Trying not to be a n00b here haha.

From what I have read, apparently the knurling on the wheel bearing cover studs is too big to fit through the axle tube flange holes.
You either need to - cut your brake backing plate down so it is like a spacer (or a backing plate eliminator like you can use on the front)
- drill the axle tube flange holes on the bearing side enough to accommodate the stud knurl.

This i show I did mine using the original Hilux cable. Eventually I plan to setup the left hand side to pull slightly more forward like the pic of the right hand side.
It works fairly well but could be better. Before I fixed up the right it was fairly ordinary. The angle of the cable pull is important.

yeah thanx for that i was thinking i might need to run independant cables running parallel with leaves anyway my setup is a bit differant im running a shortened patrol diff but i think this may still work(length might be an issue).You wouldnt beleive the subaru calipers same as pictured bolt straight on except i had to retap the slide bolts to M10 but piston diameter and dimensions excactly the same so for me bolt on.I couldnt f#$%n believe it.So patrol steel part and pads and suby piston/caliper just a bit of useless info unless you have patrol diff.Geez there gettin hard to find these calipers!!!

Sorry for the dig but what did you do about the cable hitting the right hand shock? You're is the only one I've found that's using factory shock location.
