2.8 performance fuel pump
As we all know you can get a performance fuel pumps for patrols and cruisers like swaffies
Now my question is can you get one for a 2.8 hilux ?
Im up for a new pump shortly and was wondering if i could spend the extra and get one that i could get more grunt out of the mighty 2.8.
I have a turbo to go one at the same time so while im at i may aswell go all out

Re: 2.8 performance fuel pump
It's not worth it
And it's not needed.
A stock fuel pump will pump more then enough fuel for A turbod lux.
Look into a custom ground can. That's next for me. Saying that I got more power then ill ever need.
I spin up 35s in the dry(2 if them) and that's only tuned to 8psi. It's all comes down to knowing how to tune( I build fuel punks and tube TD cars all day every day)

Re: 2.8 performance fuel pump
Is it as simple as screwing up the pump getting more fuel ?
Re: 2.8 performance fuel pump
Not really pump timing (when in vehicle with a dial indicator) and also comes down to your turbo setup. When it comes on boost/how hard it comes in.
But befor you touch the fuel screw make sure you have a EGT GAUGE. Hooked up

old lux can you tell me more about the pump timing? What to look and listen for? What tools? Tips and tricks ect...

Re: 2.8 performance fuel pump
INSTALL EGT GUAGE
his already told you to do that
that would be first before you stuff with the fuel screw
it will tell you if your running too much fuel into the engine.
your temps will show it..
first thing is do THE EGT GUAGE.

I have two installed chief. I tuned mine 3 years ago and run 14psi everyday. I'm not some kid with a turbo kit mate. I just like to hear what other people do that are in the business and if they are willing to share any hints or tips i'd love to listen and learn, then try it for myself. For two reasons. The satisfaction of learning something new and the ability then to diagnose or fix my own car if i'm out and about rather than just sitting there waiting for racq.CRUZAAMAD wrote:INSTALL EGT GUAGE

Everytime i get on a forum there are more posts like my mate did this and his uncle tried that or i've read this...ect. Old lux mentioned he is in the industry and has had great success with his lux, I would like to hear what he did or does directly from him.
Hope i didn't offend you MAD, stiff shit if i did though
Re: 2.8 performance fuel pump
Will you be running an intercooler? That'll make it safer to up the boost a bit more. Running the turbo IP theres a couple little mods you can do to see boost sooner too. Turning the boost comp rod to use the either shorter or longer ramp. And also drilling the input line on the boost compensator hat

Re: 2.8 performance fuel pump
there is no real factory timing as such as there never was a 2.8 with a turbo.BzR5150 wrote:old lux can you tell me more about the pump timing? What to look and listen for? What tools? Tips and tricks ect...

so you basically work off the 2.4 settings which is 0.65-0.85 of a mm but I set mine up more advanced then that, lol just cause I had the motor built and I know how to drive accordingly

14 PSI how much more boost would you like? I don't have a intercooler on mine as for what you spend you don't get results(have seen dynos figures to back up my claim and have spoken to the guys at DENCO(since they make the barrel coolers) and that's why they don't do a kit for them
in the coming weeks I m going to put mine on a dyno when I change out my diff centre to install my new locker i'll throw in a 4.3 factory ratio and see what numbers it can do( I know dynos mean fark all but id be curious to know how it goes)
as I mentioned I only run 8-9PSI and its tuned aggressively as I still get EGT temps of 500-550 with no soot so its set nicely.
if its setup properly you don't need to do this. if your having to do this stuff your turbo is to big for the application, remember your only playing with a 2,8 diesel not a racecar. don't expect it to do a million MPHslythoughtz wrote:More info on the boost comp IP mods here

Re: 2.8 performance fuel pump
I was only saying installing an intercooler would make it safer with higher boost. Any mods to bring on boost sooner is better IMO. As long as it's not being thrashed what harm could it bring?

Re: 2.8 performance fuel pump
Well I start making boost at 1500 rpm and full boost by a touch over 2 so I can't complain. Boost earlier just means more fuel, more fuels means bigger EGTs. I still wonder why people expect to pump massive boost through a little motor. I plan on upping boost to maybe 12 or 13psi for when I send the car south for some comps for a bit more poke but it doesn't need it for normal driving

Re: 2.8 performance fuel pump
Yeah I'm not going to be running anymore than 15psi once I've installed the my w2a intercooler. Seeing the boost sooner brings the need for more go pedal down. That's my theory anyway haha. Does anyone have any power figures on them?

Re: 2.8 performance fuel pump
What do you want the figures of? As mentioned ill be getting it on the dyno in a few weeks for a few runs. With thus tune and a high boost tube.

Re: 2.8 performance fuel pump
Just ya power figures so I know what to expect when I get around to finishing mine off. I know it wont be huge. It's not like you need huge amounts of power though. Good combination of suspension, tyres and lift will take you anywhere.
