Tuning King shocks
G'day all
How hard is it to tune a King patrol bolt in shock?
Looking at getting some for the GU, just struggling to justify Aus prices , so I thought it can't be THAT hard

Re: Tuning King shocks
Mate bought some from the aus dealer at slacks creek qld. All valved up, nitrogen charged and ready to go. They were not that more exspensive than buying them from the states. Could be worth checking out.
Or speak to Sandy at Aus 4wd he's got the hole valving thing under control.
Valving them youself you'll need a nitogen charging kit maybe a few speclised tools too.

Anything is possible, it just comes down to time and money.

Re: Tuning King shocks
Down south motorsports in the US. Sonny will valve for free to your specs.
You will need corner weights and application,
They also do one with a compression adjuster for Patrol. I wanted some for my cruiser but the only do 8" or 10", 12" etc and I need 9"
cheers bru

Re: Tuning King shocks
surely you can move one of the mounts up/down one inch and use the 10 inch.bru21 wrote:Down south motorsports in the US. Sonny will valve for free to your specs.

Re: Tuning King shocks
For sure I could, - or remake the upper and lower and run a standard king shock.
Being a work vehicle though, I don't want to modify anything for the possible insurance issues it may cause.

Re: Tuning King shocks
bru, my cruiser had 3 or 4 inch lift and i ran the patrol 3-5" kings (10 inch travel shocks) successfully for 2 years, had a reasonably hard life including 4 wheels off the ground frequently and never had an issue with bottoming etc. ran 10" regular Kings in the rear and had to extend the mounts up an inch on the rear as i dont like extending bumps to suit shocks.
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown
Re: Tuning King shocks
Sounds good!. Were they worth the effort? what were they like on road? over damped?
I was thinking 8" shocks for 2" lift?
cheers bru

Re: Tuning King shocks
they were amazing. best thing i have done to any car ive owned to this day and i didnt even get them tuned specifically after arriving just ran with sonny valving. on road they were a tad firm on the small bumps but i was running HD dobinson coils so it could have been that. the rear i ran a massacred leaf pack that started life as a 2" efs pack with superior extended shackles which was basically the same firmness as a standard patrol rear. the reason i raised the rear shock mount was because i had superior high clearance spring plates which raised the shock mount up an inch.
measure it 5 times and see if they will squeeze in, the longer the better, i had 8.5 travel fox 2.0s before the kings and they limited travel ALOT. I cheated with my measuring and compressed the standard shock and measured it.... gave over an inch of shaft spare as it turned out when bottomed hard.
