Hey guys.
Lookin to buy a turbo kit for my lux. Any ideas what i should go with
Been offered dts kit from a 2.8D (complete) with 2 1/2" exhaust
a turbo glide kit from a 2.8d (complete) straight through 2 1/4 " exhaust
and got few prices to make a kit my self..
Been lookin round. Prob best with a water and oil cooled turbo. Im goin a top mount cooler.
To buy new turbo , new manifold , new exhaust , new oil / water lines , second hand top mount cooler all new bends and piping.. It can be done for around $1500 or cheaper... So got a few options to consider
If i buy a complete second hand kit im only gonna throw away cross over pipes as im goin a top mount any way so just gotta weigh it all up

Re: Hilus 2.8D Turbo ideas
Mate i have a second hand dts kit on mine i bought for $1000. It is great cause i didn't need to move the exhaust studs or anything but i also bought all the parts from a surf turbo setup from several different wreckers for under $400. I ended up putting the surf setup on a mates 2.8 and he loves it, but the turbo died and he wasn't keen to rebuild it so ho bought a Chinese copy.
At the end of the day just get what you can afford. They both work its just the value. If you go surf gear then you might be able to afford a bigger exhaust but run the risk of buying a rooted turbo or something. If you pay for a kit and something is wrong you can just take it back though...

I put a safari on mine. With no cooler but just bought a car with a turbi(haven't looked at it) with a early rx7 top mount cooler so ill proberly just fit that up., but the turbo glide kit heard there pretty good.

Re: Hilus 2.8D Turbo ideas
hey mate, im thinking the same direction for my 2.4, but im going to make my setup, i have seen oldmate selling the steam pipe manifolds on ebay for $300, i will make my own, and will run a td04l(same as turboglide run). Its water cooled, dump pipes are easy to come across, easy to hook up oil feed, and will drill and weld a return for the oil line. All up a few donuts, bends and silcone hose and it should be quite simple to make an efficent setup. Ill be putting a pyro gauge in mine, but at the moment not sure what to do with my fuel pump.im looking at buying a diesel compression tester first and then going ahead, might take some photos on the progress.
Other than that good luck
cheers

If i had the time and money i would be making a Variable Vane Turbo (VNT) setup. Best of both worlds. Seen the turbos for cheap, just need to build the manifold and plumb it up.
