gq speedo not working
gq speedo not working
hey everyone the speedo on my 91 gq wagon gives a false reading once the car is moving.it either reads a lot less then the speed you are doing or it goes all the way around and sits hard against the pin at the other end of the speedo....any suggestions on fix??? cheers in advance pete
Re: gq speedo not working
You can try a few things.
Pull it out, pull it apart, clean it and hit every solder joint with an soldering iron to resolder them in case of any dry joints. Some people supposedly have success with this, but I didn't when mine was doing the same.
Another is to replace it with a second hand unit. But from the amount of times I have heard this happening, it could only be a temporary solution.
Most expensive option, costs a few hundred dollars. Take it to an instrument specialist and have them rebuild it. It was the option I chose, so I came away with a brand new calibrated speedo.

A place called NAMIISS in Newcastle
http://www.gauge-shop.com.au/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I only pulled out my cluster, dropped it into them then picked it up a few days later all fixed up.
I assume you figured out how to get it all out?

Re: gq speedo not working
yep got it all out.cleaned everything,sprayed with contact cleaner.no change,bugger.still scratching my head on this one...what did they charge you to rebuild youre cluster?
Re: gq speedo not working
I honestly can't remember, somewhere between $200 and $300 I think. but they essentially just replaced everything. So while it may be a few dollars, how untrustworthy mine was, it was still better then a speeding fine.bhundi wrote:yep got it all out.cleaned everything,sprayed with contact cleaner.no change,bugger.still scratching my head on this one...what did they charge you to rebuild youre cluster?

It could also be the drive gear in the TX case, or the sender in the TX case. The cog on the sender and in the TX case are either a fibre or nylon and if there has been any water in it then it may be damaged.
