Hi all,
Some noises are easy to find, others impossible so here i am asking if anyone has experienced the same to give me some direction.
Straight driving over bumps - no noise. Going into corners more right than left I get a solid knocking sound from the left front. Shocks OK. All nuts and bolts tight. Wheel bearings repacked and tightened. Seems to have only started after after a good thrashing through the bush a few weeks ago.
Frontera is booked into ARB in a few weeks to have the OME system installed. So if I don't nail it in the mean time perhaps they may identify it on the hoist But any suggestions appreciated.

IKt's your torsion bars, spray em where they meet at the middle cross member and live with it.
Avoid the ARB kit as more broike than worked. I have pics tp prove it.

But I'm interested in knowing more about the problems with the ARB kit. What breaks? Shocks? Coils? I'd like to see photos.
I was also impressed with their after sales support. Full 12 month warranty. Problems fixed by any ARB outlet. They measure height after install and check with follow up inspections. I've used their kits before on Hiluxs with the added weight of V8's in them and could never fault them.

Found the problem, but am puzzled why Its the body mount that's situated directly under your left foot on the passanger side. It was the only thing that would produce the direct clunk under that spot. It wasn't loose, but I've pulled the bolt out and the bottom rubber block out and the clunk noise has gone.

The clunking noise you can hear is the body mounts. The mounts are soft and flex too much. When the body flexes the steel tubes in the front mount can sit on each other making the second mount under the front floor pan clunk as it separates and returns. I was told by Holden it was the torsion bars sliding violently in and out of the rear mount on the crossmember like CJ mentioned. Mine usually gets worse after serious off-roading and sometimes after towing. More off-roading can sometimes fix it, but it'll go away eventually.
I started out with an ARB lift kit. The rear springs are 2" but they don't like to sell that now because the rear upper locating arms on the axle can hit the fuel tank. I dont have a problem but others have. THe lift they sell now is 1/2" which is next to useless( last time I spke to them). I ditched the rear ARB shocks because they didn't have enough travel after lifting it. I replaced them with Rancho 9115. Best thing I did. Soft around town and hard when I'm towing. Set them soft up the cape onthe coorugations and they were great. I kept the front ARB shocks becasue they are about perfect all-round with a 40mm tweak on the torsion bars.

Thanks for the feedback David. Can we stop the clunk? I'm surprised that the floor pan mount can move as the bolt locks the centre tube to the body firmly. The two rubber blocks hold the chassis. I've tightened the bolt nut as hard as possible but still get the clunk. It defies logic. Do I modify the front mounts ( under the bumper? ) to stop this. Or did holden bring out stiffer rubbers on later models?

Hi Wayne,
had the same prob with the front body mount on the driver side. found that the bolt was actually slightly bent. I found that after bending back straight and greasing the absolute carp out of it the noise went away... I'm impresseed that you found the prob so quick;y took me a good couple of weeks.

It didn't make a lot of sense to me either, but the mechanic assures me it is and he hasn;t been wrong yet. I understand Patrols have the same problem with the 4 front mounts. The problem comes occasionally and goes jsut as quickly so I don't worry about it any more. I'm told all Isuzu vehicles have soft mounts so I'm not going to spend $500 bucks plus labour to fix an occassional problem.

I am having a similiar problem except mine seems to be coming from the front right of the car and i can feel a vibration throug hthe steering wheel and pedels at the same time. When i slow down and turn and also when I'm doing 110 on the highway its like a clunking grinding noise and doesnt go away until i hit 0km/hr and then start driving again.
I need to get this fixed asap cos its worrying me driving like it on the highway and also full stop.
Any ideas?

Nope they are manual hubs....The front right wheel has lots of play when you kick the top of it where as all the others are fine in that respect and dont move at all. I'm thinking either wheel bearings or the hub/axle or something along those lines.J Top wrote:Kurt that sounds like your FWH, are they autos ?
