One thing to remeber with home built air intakes is to up the pipe size from the intake size of the air box.There are frictional loses etc involved.
The other thing to try and avoid is using convoluted piping,
The air rushing over the convolutions creats a whirlpool effect.The higher the air speed the smaller the area left in the centre of the pipe to allow air flow.
