08 duel cab hilux lift kits
hi all,
I am just starting out in the 4x4 world and my friends and I are planning a trip up to cape York.
its a while away and I thought this would be a good time to ask the experts on what I would need in the way of lift height.
I have a std 08 duel cab hilux turbo diesel.
any info would be much appreciated.
cheers horns.

Re: 08 duel cab hilux lift kits
I just recently did the best tracks the cape had to offer over about 4 weeks and had a ball
I did it in a 06 prado with a 4" lift and had a heap of clearance for the tracks up there.
With a 2" lift you will definitely do the cape and with some good tyres, should be able to go 32's- 33's on that lift with right offset wheel. You can do it standard (no lift) but you will be dragging the underside of your car around a bit as most if the cars that get stuck up there are stock ones and dig holes in them spots.
Make sure you have a snorkel as a minimum as nolans brook will be up to/ just over your bonnet (depending on when you go in the season) and in my opinion put in a long range tank to make it more distance before you run out of fuel.
Also a good set of steel steps/rock sliders will be ideal just as a bit of protection.

I did cape york in 2012 in a 2" lifted 100series cruiser with 33" tyres, Snorkel, winch and sliders.
Make sure you have good shocks as the corrugations will give them a hammering.
I put bilstien 5100's on for the trip and didnt break any but wish i had spent a bit more on some better shocks.

Yeh and make sure your bushes are in top cond as they will cop a flogging as well, I had remote res pro fender shocks in the prado and busted a remote res line coming back as it touched the chassie rail and wore through the rubber n steel braid.Shadow wrote:I did cape york in 2012 in a 2" lifted 100series cruiser with 33" tyres, Snorkel, winch and sliders.

All the trucks that we went with had things rattle loose and bolts fall out, so would be a great idea to locktite everything in before you go as things will come loose.
Also If u lift it make sure your bump stops stop your shocks from bottoming out as the dips/roads will smash your shocks to pieces if they are allowed to fully compress.

Is the Prado petrol or Diesel?
Can you do it without a snorkel? I think it was the most unused accessory on my last truck.
I get about 600 - 650 offroad is that enough range?

Re: 08 duel cab hilux lift kits
Diesel, and a couple of crossings are up to/just over the bonnet (late in the season and levels were down a bit) personally I'd put on a snorkel but I guess u could get away with it but I wouldn't risk it for the little they cost.
Are you taking into account low range n revving, deflated tyres, a/c etc.
If you plan it right it can be done maybe with a jerry can just to be safe, but it will be a hassle compared to a long range tank but 600-650km is ok if that's the worst it'll get.
To give u an idea I was getting around 1500km to 180L at home un loaded, 1000-1200km on the highway loaded and economy went down to 7-800km / 180L when it was loaded up and 4wd'n
Something to think about

Thanks Brad, yes worked that out on a fraser trip, so mixture of hard packed beach, soft sand, cuttings, deflated tyres and towing a mates d40 behind on a snatch strap from orchid beach down to eurong after it punctured the radiator.

Re: 08 duel cab hilux lift kits
Yeh if that's the case you will be fine getting 600km/tank. It's not that far between drinks up there but will just have to plan out the distances.
But the cape was great just August/sept when we went it was really really windy (easterlies) so the east coast was pretty much a write off.
