Dual case queeries
This is al for a LN106 hilux with a. 5 speed manual
Well I've just recieved my crawler gears and dual case adapter from LROR...
Now my question is how do I work out the gear stick arrangement?? As from my understanding the front case is a top shift case(does that mean I blank off my original forward shift position??)
Also I think you use your rear case is your original forward shifting case??(what sticks do I use now?!!)
I haven't ever seen them befor so I wanna figure out now befor I build them and try and mount them and get totally lost and confused and freak out
Also who sells dual case crossmembers?? I've rang locktup, snake and superior and no one sells crossmembers ad I've tried to rings buds and he hasn't answered in the last week and a half...
Regards cohen
Also loving in darwin so it'll be hard to get 1 made

Re: Dual case queeries
It's been a long time since I did this, but the front case will be whatever suits your gearbox, so if it's currently forward shift, then use that.
It's the rear case that needs to be top shift.

Re: Dual case queeries
What he said^^^^^^.
Front shift at front, as its already on the back of the gearbox, top shift at back.
As for sticks, frontcase in normal stock position, back case back inbetween seats, youll figure exactly where to cut once you have cases bolted in.
Onto crossmembers, not sure who does off the shelf stuff, but custom would be my best guess.
Brad has just done duals in his Lux, have a read through his build in members section.
Theres also a thread in Gen Tech, started by me, about duals, some good info in there. Worth a look.
Whatever you find out, please post it up, Im going duals early next year.

Re: Dual case queeries
So I guess I'm buying a twin sticks for a top shift case...
I think I'll buy a cross member from low range the people who I bought the duals gear off...
If I get any other info I'll let you know... I emailed LROR so hopefully they sort me out

Re: Dual case queeries
Is there any particular reason why you want twin sticks? If you put the front case in low you'll have 2wd low anyway.old lux wrote:So I guess I'm buying a twin sticks for a top shift case...
Re: Dual case queeries
just looks cooler...
If I don't have twin sticks will I still be able to use the front case in low and the rear case in 4x4 but still technically high? so im not using the 4.7s so I can still use it in mud???
I thought you had to shift the rear case separately ie 1 stick for 2/4 choice and a second stick for hi/low choice

Re: Dual case queeries
The rear case is shifted the same as a standard Hilux case, so the standard shifter is all you need. It's personal preference if you want twin sticks.
The front is shifted independently, so you can put it in low while the rear is in any position. Yes, you can use low in the front and 4wd-high in the rear case.
You should get a small piece of square steel with the kit that is welded onto the high-low shift fork on the front case. It locks the shifter in so it can only go forward and back on the front case, only getting the high-low option. The back shifter stays as normal.

Re: Dual case queeries
I get you cheers for that mate.. I completely forget a kit when the rear case is in H4 that's it's actually in 4x4 retard moment lol ... Sweet so I can start building my rear case (4.7 gears) while my other case is still in the car ... Hopefully won't be long then
Cheers guys been a big help...

Re: Dual case queeries
I have the duals with 4.7 front and 2.28 rear which is a bad combo as it multiples the torque on the rear case input by 4.7-1 when front is in low (broke the input shaft to second transfer at willowglen)
But I only use standard shifters and is really easy to use, but because I have 4.7 front I can have the lower 2wd low range.
I didn't really find a need at willowglen for low low as its too slow and you won't have enough momentum to climb things, but depends on the situation.
I thought I needed twin sticks for the rear case also but I won't change them as stock shifters are fine, only thing ill do is swap 4.7's to rear case and see how it goes..

Cheers brad I think that's the plan... Stock shifters to start with and see how it goes....
Up 4.7 in the rear case in the plan

Re: Dual case queeries
Hey man, did you actually get all the answers you wanted out of this?
I got a pounding headache so I got lost.
But as far as the dual crossmember goes, I'd recommend NOT ordering it from Low range, the freight will crush you.
Most places do sell them, they just don't list it.
I know for a fact Buds sells them if that helps?

Re: Dual case queeries
Oh and twin sticks are awesome for tight maneuvering in low low!
Twins with 4.7's in the back are the bomb for flat crawling such as creek beds etc.
Twins with 2.28's in both or single case with 4.7's are good for 90% of terrain but there are terrains where you want more.

I've mate all I've get so far is the 4.7 gears and the adapter... Also have a front shift case and a top shift case....
Haven't touched anything yet... As plans have changed and I'm doing my histeer first so I don't have to get driveshafts made again lol
Every time I've rang buds no answer.... I know his busy so I'll call again when I build the cases

Haha that's a laugh lol
The v 8 is next but I want duals to go slow and use skill not balls to the wall and jump over things lol

Re: Dual case queeries
You should look at triple sticks from RADesign if you haven't got your twin sticks yet

Re: Dual case queeries
So whats the advantage of using triple sticks over using twin sticks or the stock shifters on duals??
MrsForby wrote: Oh I desperately truly love the taco.
Re: Dual case queeries
all shifters are in the one spot, no need to cut another hole in the tunnel
(In my case however, I still had to as I changed from a forward shift to top shift, so blanking front hole required + I wanted to retain my console)

Re: Dual case queeries
110% agree with what Joel said (jcas24 ^^^^)
Just do your homework as to where you buy them, I'm not going to enter in to it, but figure out who supplies them and then get on pirate and search around, there is some good and some BAD experiences with triple stick suppliers.
From a good supplier tho, triple sticks are the bomb diggity!!!
