I'm think about chipping my v8 cruiser. Wonder what best chip would be. I don't want to over do it and cause problems with the motor. Also wanting to know if there a after market turbo to put on them or do I just have to get mine rebuilt

Mate there has been alot of talk lately about this topic, regarding the current hiluxes. A new 'chip' has hit the market from the tuning company HKS, now its actually a piggy back ecu not a chip. This means the tuning capabilities are almost endless. You can tune the timeing, pump, injectors boost everything, It also has the ability to auto correct any errors.

Recently a 3l D4D went 250hp at the wheels with an aftermarket turbo, pump, injectors, cooler all that stuff with the HKS controlling all the tuning.

the guys at Just Autos in Nambour QLD, are really leading the way with this. I don't think they have tried it on a V8 yet but I would say the results would be well worth it. Hands down a much better option than a plug and play chip that will just increase the common rail pressure.

Cheers Tom

brother inlaw bought the v8 ute with the chipit chip on it.

max setting it was a friggin beast.. he mentioned, it would just FLY and very unstable on the loud pedal.
800nm or something

his last ute which is the 1hd fte had the steinbouer chip..
it cost a heap but had it on from get go and not one single issue..
it flies and fast as the v8.

he mentions that for the price of the steinbouer.. 2700 you cant beat the quality..
but either the chip was on the ute at the time, or he put it on.
THE V8 was bought 2nd hand.
the hdj was bought new

at the minute the chip it is set on 2 and is having issues around 2500 to 3000 rpm with a pause... or something while driving it

awesome trucks but
basically he will get the steinbouer when funds allow.. ASAP

Remember steinbaurer have a 30 day money back garentee.. Al you pay for is fitting. ( I think ) look into it mate well worth the money,,, you've just spent $80,000 on it what's another 2 or 3 to make you happy.

I run a steinbauer. They are a control module not a fuel rail confuzion like the cheaper brands.

You can get them cheaper than the above price. You get what you pay for.

Mine is a work ute and has over a tonne on it constantly. It's getting 190hp and 624nm at the rears on 33s.

Call around and get some prices. Try ARB I know the Newcastle store deals them or try diesel care.

I dont believe 7l/100km for a second.

That makes your 2.5tonne cruiser ute more economical than a toyota camry and on par with a corolla!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you mean 7km per litre? (14.3l/100km)

Pretty sure 'as low as' means coasting or on the highway.

Is that averaged over a tank? or just an instantaneous fuel usage on a scan guage or something like SCANAS is suggesting?

9l/100 averaged over a tank towing 3 tonne blows my mind. I cant believe its true.

My 100 series cruiser the best ive done is an average of 12.5l/100 down to canberra at the speed limits (110 100 etc). Thats with no roof rack and nothing being towed.

If i babyd it and sat on 90 i could maybe get it down to 11, but 9l/100 is just impossible in my mind.

Do you drive them like you have shit to do, the world always seems to be slower than you, and how fast you want to go - or do you have an egg duct taped to the accelerator pedal?

I drive mine with option a, holding speed and avoiding throttle changes = 13.5/100 always. Never had better or worse ever, not once.

It's possible that each scan gauge has been configured differently when installed.

My 2007 VDJ79 ute has got 327,000 km on it now and the best I've ever got is 13.5l/100 (basically empty, not towing), on average my ute gets between 18-20l/100 I'm always heavily loaded, either towing 2.5t tool trailer or 2.0t excavator and copious amounts of shit in the back. I run a DP chip set to performance not economy and run a straight through 3" exhaust with no cat and no muffler, sounds and goes great. I also run a ram top on the snorkel and a re-usable K&N filter, the engine can breath and the resultant increase in power and torque is well worth the money and effort. When time allows the ute has a date with the dyno machine to squeeze some more ponies as I feel theres plenty more untapped resource there that I want to exploit. Lets face the facts you don't buy a V8 cruiser for Prius like economy, you buy it because you either tow heavy loads or cant bare the embarrassment of (A) owning (B) driving a Datsun. I strongly recommend installing a chip and exhaust, you wont be disappointed.

My 2010 GXL 79 has a Torqit chip with a 3"straight thru beaudesert zorst, ram head on snorkel, standard air filter and box, 305/70/16 tyres and chews around 15/100 empty driving highway to work through a few towns and etc.

Load it up and it chews around 20/100 on trips away like highway driving up to fraser or down the high country.

The chip is good but you cant just set it 1 thru 9 etc its a combination of numbers and letters and you need to call customer support to get combos for your desired power and where it comes in.

Not overly happy as on the highest setting old mate can give me, my mates 06 model 6cyl with a roo chip set on highest setting can still keep up no dramas.

Sounds effen awesome with the beaudesert zorst on it tho.
Get out there!!

I don't think you can accurately give fuel usage figures by using one of those gauges. Needs to be worked out when you fill up at the pump, but even then your odometer might be out like most vehicles.

I'm with jimbo. I wouldn't trust the scangauge ever. Real figures only published, means true distance covered and actual fuel put in the tank. Both my brother's have 79 v8's and both state same figures as bru, or very close too.
