Hilux diff upgrade cruiser diffs or Hilux wide track
What would be better ifs rear diff and Hilux ifs hubs wide track or 75 series cruiser diffs ? What's your thoughts
Re: Hilux diff upgrade cruiser diffs or Hilux wide track
Better for what, there is ups n downs on both
Depends on what u are gonna do with it ie- motor, size tyres, comps, daily, strength- higher clearance..
Everyone will have a differing opinion on it.
Is it only wider u want to go or is there more to it???

Re: Hilux diff upgrade cruiser diffs or Hilux wide track
I think IFS widetrack would be easier. Isnt the centre on the rear 75series offset a bit, so wont line up with the back of the transfer.

Re: Hilux diff upgrade cruiser diffs or Hilux wide track
You can graft a landcruiser center section onto IFS wide track tubes as the centers are all 30 spline except for 100 series. Then put an 80 series front in.

Wouldnt it be easier just to use 80 series diffs in this case?Willy Hilux wrote:You can graft a landcruiser center section onto IFS wide track tubes as the centers are all 30 spline except for 100 series. Then put an 80 series front in.
or are 80 series too wide?

Re: Hilux diff upgrade cruiser diffs or Hilux wide track
I'm looking at grafting 80 series or 75 series ends onto a IFS diff. I want to keep the 8" center as I cant find a 5.29 ratio in 9.5" but I want to go fully floating and disk brake rears.

Re: Hilux diff upgrade cruiser diffs or Hilux wide track
so i'll be able to put this in a 80 series center and put into a 75 series housing is that right? with a ARB airlocker?
is there any way to make the 75 diff wide like the hilux IFS diff? without wheel spacers?

Re: Hilux diff upgrade cruiser diffs or Hilux wide track
so like I said??
I should be able to put this in a 80 series front 3rd member. then install into a 75 series housing. thus converting the 75 series housing to high pinion??
will I be able to use a RD132 air locker in it as I already have that in my rear diff atm

Re: Hilux diff upgrade cruiser diffs or Hilux wide track
from what ive worked out a prado diff is a closer match to a IFS hilux but is disk brake. its to much work to get a 75 diff to suit a lux with IFS hubs(you need 80 series hubs and rotors mounted to a 75 series diff)
cheers for the help tho

Re: Hilux diff upgrade cruiser diffs or Hilux wide track
Early 75 series has 9.5" centres F&R. Late 75 series has 8" HP centre from factory same as 80 series using RD132.
Having the transfer output centred & pumpkin off centre is not a problem, as long as the pinion flange is the same angle as the output flange.
60 series rear (1465mm) is near as dammit to IFS width (1470mm) so would suit, and is already 6 stud

Re: Hilux diff upgrade cruiser diffs or Hilux wide track
if you want to keep your centres and have width think about an 80 series front diff and an 05+ lux diff, get to keep your centre and not have a big ball sack hanging down getting caught on shit
Re: Hilux diff upgrade cruiser diffs or Hilux wide track
60 series is identical track width to IFS Lux/Runner, bigger gears full floating and if you flip the diff the tail shaft offset doesn't matter.
Not sure how the 60 front would go (assuming yours is already solid) you may have trouble with the centre being too large or sorting steering.
Cheers

Re: Hilux diff upgrade cruiser diffs or Hilux wide track
Struth, SAS with a 60 front has been done on a Surf by Woodbutcher few years ago now.
He did have a few clearance issues to work out, but fitted. Would expect it to be a bit easier on a factory beam axle chassis.

Re: Hilux diff upgrade cruiser diffs or Hilux wide track
Yeh mate mines a 60 it has some limitations but has proven pretty tough so far, main issue is the size of the pumpkin mine needs hauling out and shaving of the top driver side for chassis clearance to allow about another 1" up travel,
Also the steering rod in front of the diff means you have to move the steering box forward and change angle on it too if you take the front axle line forward to give better clearance for scrub radius.
I was thinking more the Lux in question may be solid already on leafs.
Cheers
