Calling Outers old hands/tech heads/forum whores

Post by Elmo »

Guys I'm trying to track down a Gen1 Hilux L52 5 speed gearbox.

The tech info I can track down so far is that they were ONLY available in 1983.

Apparently the other 5 speed that was available was different. My info goes like this:
L43 4 speed 79 - 80
L45 4 speed 81 - 82
L50 5 speed 81 - 82
L52 5 speed 83

And it quite specifically the last model in that list.

Does anyone know of any of these around?
Or what particular vehicle specification they were in, ie: petrol, diesel etc?

I have been looking quite intensively and am now resorting to asking for help.

I hope someone here (the old hands) will remember something??
Or someone (the tech heads) will know some more details??
Or someone (the forum whores) could use their techno wizardry to track one down??

Thank you for any help in advance
My name is Rob.

And only one other thread in here since so still only second from the top in the Toyota section?

This place has died in the ass big time, what happened?

maybe you'll get a quicker reply on 4wdaction forum? I'm sure if someone saw it who could help, then they'd respond.

Na that's what I meant tho bud.
Few years back there would be enough guys on here who would be able to help.

Plus 3 days and still only second thread in this section, fark I remember when if you went 3days without a reply you'd end up 4 pages deep.

Just wondering what happened to them all??

Facebook has done a lot to lessen forum traffic, not just to our little slice of interweb here, but every forum Im a part of has gone slow.
Plus the amount of rules on what we can and cant do to our vehicles has sent a few people away. Plus life in general.
Back to topic though, I agree with the above.
If someone had read this, and knew the answer, it would've been posted up.

Personally, I never even knew the first gen Lux came with a 5 speed that wasn't a G series box. I know they had a 4speed, but not a 5speed. So Im not much help.

Hi Elmo, found some info here-

http://www.marlincrawler.com/tech/trans ... atio-chart" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Additionally I looked up my old Max Ellery manual for Hilux/ 4 runner 1979- 1997 and it says...

"Hilux vehicles up to 1983 used L40, L42 and L43 (all 4 speed) and W50 transmissions.

Hilux vehicles from 1983 to 1988 used G40, G52 and G54 plus L40 and L42 and W52 transmissions.

Hilux vehicles from 1988 (to 1997) used G40, G52, G54 and G58 plus L40 and W56 transmissions."

No mention of L52 in there so maybe no Oz delivered vehicles came with them?

Hey bud,

Thanks HEAPS for that, yeah that is some great tech help.

Maybe they didnt come to OZ, thats a bummer, going to make my plans quite difficult, really need that short length 5 speed, will have to track down another short 5speed somehow.. somewhere..

You are chasing a G52, not the most hard core box ever built so not very exciting.

As said maybe 4WDA can help.

Na man, don't want a G52.

I do indeed want an L52, although I'm coming to the conclusion they were never available in Australia

Would toyodiy.com be of any help? Might shed some light on where they were available. Just a thought.
