Tiny's expedition base camp :D
Base is a 1980 denning tag axle coach, it has a 6v92 (non turbo) Detroit. For those who don't know they a 2 strike diesel so need a supercharger to run, Detroit engine models work as number of cylinders / engine configuration / capacity per cylinder so basically a 6v92 is a 9litre v6 2 stroke diesel.
From the original coach the roof was raised 300mm to allow for ample head room and a flat floor straight through.
Windows lifted, repositioned, removed where required and a semi reskin of the coach.
Fit out included bedroom at rear that includes a queen size island bed with under bed storage, cupboards / wardrobes and a 3.5kw Fujitsu invertor split. Also we have a 32" Led telly, ps3, and some other entertainment for rainy days
Middle if the bus as the bathroom and laundry and includes a basin, full size glass door shower, washer and dryer (full domestic) a macerater flush toilet and a 3kw dometic ducted air con plus loads of bench and cupboard space.
Front half of the bus is the kitchen / dining / lounge area. The kitchen is well set up with reasonable storage, 4 burner gas cooktop, oven and grill, range-hood, sink, microwave and a 240ltr fridge / freezer
We did have a large flat screen and corner unit but replaced it with a desk which is better for us, we have a 2 person dinnette and a 3-4 person louche that converts to a double bed, 2 captains chairs that swing for travel, drivers area and a decent sound system for cranking up the tunes to annoy any old farts who want to set up their caravan in your shadow.
A second splitty will be installed soon.
On the roof I currently have a winegaurd Arial and 2 x 120w solar panels with 4 x 200w panels been added soon.
We have 2 surflo pumps, one for taps one for the dunny, 14ltr has hot water service, 400amp hour lead acid batteries that are about to be replaced with 1000amp hours of agm, 3000va victron inverter / charger, 3kva Honda silent genny, 1000ltrs fresh water, 400ltr grey water storage and 300 ltr black water (about 3 weeks worth) storage and a full custom pump out system.
I also have pretty much a full mobile workshop and tow a ute on a trailer.
I'll add some pics and descriptions tomorrow

Re: Tiny's expedition base camp :D
Exellent.
re trailer, towed a car trailer from gulgong to dubbo few weeks ago belonged to a friend ,
put a b50 dual cab on and stopped about half way back for a burger at the pub.
We noticed the arse of the trailer was about 4" off the road ? after a look we relised
it had started to bend and crease just where the rear slipper springs contacted the frame.
The builders hadn't put a wear plate where they made contact on the frame, they wore through and the frame
consentinerd at the bottom ,turned into a banana back, was only 2 years old

My trailer is pretty solid, I'm ordering a 4.5t electric brake and suspension set up tomorrow and will brace the chassis while I'm there just to make sure

I reckon if I could find one with ok kms in a wreck it would be cheaper than a rebuild and even better if I can find one with a super 10 auto

I can't remember when they had dramas start but we had late models ones at hunt in stars with ECM issues and one that they put 7 heads in over 2 years and 370k kms, jays were low due to always been in the workshop.
I got stuck bring a truck back from Perth with a DDEC 5, prolly didn't help that I got flown over to pick it up after the bloke driving it did his brief with a fire truck tune..... $1.38 across the paddock, got a police escort straight to Detroit

Awesome set up, living the dream!
It's a shame the quality of towing parts is always mediocre at best - when I built the last trailer I used a AL - KO http://www.alko.com.au/vehicle-technolo ... nsion-irs/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Rubber axle - really happy with it. The trailer is super low and my little bro's lowered corolla drives on nice and easy!
Good luck with the retrofit, everything is heavy ha ha

Re: Tiny's expedition base camp :D
Yeah I'm not looking forward to it. Low is actually an issue with the bus. I had to lift the trailer because the tow bar is a large distance behind the drive it was making the rear of the trailer drag on even very flat driveways etc.
The towing hardware options are limited but in my situation heavy / solid gear is fine. The trailer tows extremely well behind the bus!

Re: Tiny's expedition base camp :D
Lol no not really though is wondered how it would go given the distance from the tow bar to the rear axle and how exaggerated small bumps etc would be. It doesn't worry it and it pulls the trailer around in virtually the same track as well so no news to exaggerate turns..... Any more than you already have to in a 12m busDozoor wrote:Don't think it has a choiceTiny wrote: The trailer tows extremely well behind the bus!
