Maxidrive Locker Issue

Post by ice4x4 »

I have a problem with my front locker. I bought the whole axle assembly 2nd hand and it sat in the shed for a while before I got around to fitting it, I have installed it now but there seems to be a problem. The locking mechanism appears to be working and the locked light is coming on but if I lift one wheel off the ground and try to drive the wheel spins and the light flashes on and off.

I am fearing that there are some splines stripped somewhere? Would it be most likely to be the 1/2, shaft dog clutch or Extension spline on the diff center? Is it possible to get spare parts? I suppose the only way I will know for sure is by pulling it apart but just wondered if anyone had any problems like this before.

Sounds like the vac diaphragm it is not pushing far enough to engage the splines. Pull the vac diaphragm off the diff and push the sleeve further towards the diff centre and re-test if proper engagement is acheived. I converted mine to +'ve pressure to solve a very similar issue.

I was under the impression that the light wouldn't come on unless the mechanism was fully engaged?

Yes you can parts from MR Automotive at Redcliffe in SE Qld and axles etc from either them or Hi Tough Engineering at the Gold Coast
