Woodpecker Challenge (sorra site) nsw june long weekend.

Post by purana »

On All Fours 4wd Club is proud to present the WOODPECKER CHALLENGE.
7-8-9 june 2014 sorra site colo heights nsw (old nissan trials site)
A new year brings a new adventure for our club and the 4wd communitee as a whole with some glimses of the past coming back to remind us of how good things use to be. Sorra site (colo park) whatever you may know it as has been used successfully by our club in the past and is more well known for the nissan trials but its been a few years and we just cant go past the closeness and quality of this site. For the past few months negotions have been made between the sorra commitee members and On All Fours to run a blackrat/ol challenge style event on this site and im happy to say that as of our site visit today it is on! Some things still need to be worked out but this date 6-9/6/2014 is locked in. We hope that everyone that had planned on being at mudgee (smiths property) on this weekend is not to dissapointed in the location change and are excited about driveing some new and awesome tracks. We love the mudgee property and it has served us well but we need to try new things to bring the crowds we once enjoyed, we are sure the smiths property will be back for bigger and better things in the future but for now a well earned break. And for you guys and girls out there that have been looking at that 4wd and wondering its time for you to dust off the seatbelts and get out there. This stlye of comp is open to every type of car standard to outlaw/ 1st timer to season pro. Vehicles must be registd and drivers part of an association recognised club but other than that we would really like to see some old faces get back out here and have a go. On All Fours is also looking for help from other clubs as in the past to help us run tracks so let me, cory or alan know if you can help? This new site has also given us the chance to bring in public spectators for the event which we all know brings new members into our 4wding world. Classes and priceing will be anounced soon and we really hope that this new event will continue our clubs passion for comping and keep the seen alive.

I think you'll find that the need for rego comes down to an insurance requirement

Ok just to get things ontrack from the get go, we have allways run an outlaw class at our past events with rego, certain vehicle mods require this class as it gives the the field more options, we all know that hydro assisted steering is roadworthy but isnt an open class mod, and strap on some huge tyres for a comp weekend 39's+ and this class speaks for its self.

With regards to outlaw class it is a matter of insurance
Within the rules there are plenty of cars that will fit into this class
The on all 4's club has work hard to keep events running (which we all want)
We need to work within the bounds of the insurance

So cars must be registered and insured
That's just the way it has to be

This is the going to be the closest event to Sydney, and with new tracks it should be a really good weekend
.....If its not on all 4's its not on......

Understand its got to do with insurance but is it hard to get the unregoed cars covered? Seeing as its not on a farm its on a race site where unregoed buggys race regularly, does that come into play?
Would be good to have another event to go to. With over a dozen local tuff truck styled trucks not able to this the question.

Comprehensive car insurance and third party insurance is nt valid in private property or in competition events anyway. Therefore the events own insurance should be covering the vehicles

I understand the stress u unrego guys go thru, iv got a no plates rig sitting in the shed too, yes sorra site has unregistered cars competing all the time but for now we have to start with what we know and have time to set up for, for one more rigs means more tracks, more work and time we havent got. Not to mention bigger/complex recoveries that need machines (we cant all weild 10 manatoi's around). Hopefully when this comp runs smooth itl open the door for us to step it up to the next level possibly switch insurers and il break out the excavator again build some crazy stuff and hang out to turn u guys back over when u lid it. Just bare with us, give us a hand for this time and the ball will hopefully start to roll.

As mentioned in the other thread. Some of us locals might be able to get together and come down on a working bee and help cut and test tracks then?

Obviously in order to get the insurance to cover this event in the first place the Event Insurer does not want the liability to be covering unregoed uninsured rigs, hence why rego and insurance is requied. We should be grateful an insurance company has come to the party to help get another NSW comp off the ground if we can move further into the unregoed stuff later great - if not them maybe some of the more modified but still regoed rigs will have a chance to test themselves without the extreme conditions that you unregoed guys really need to be properly challenged.

If the insurer doesn't want to cover the vehicles then who is responsible if there's a serious accident or injury to a competitor or a spectator ? Since he third party or comprehensive insurer won't cover a single thin since it's a competition and on private property.
Total crock really just the club trying to pass the buck yet the one etting shafted for the responsibility is the owner of the vehicle as I can't see the club holding the event jumping in with their hand in the air claiming responsibility .
I would sugget getting a decent insurance policy that cover all competitors and spectators for any accident or injury it's only fair as the event holder you uphold your responsibility as the organiser.

before this gets off track, it is all about having another event on the calendar. it is what it is, if this thread goes into a bagging out session and people complaining we will request the thread be locked and only updates will be communicated via your club.

Id be interested who the insurance policy is arranged through. Its definitely not CCDA if they don't approve unregoed vehicles.

I applaud the On All Fours for standing up and holding another event there, its a great spot. Id just be getting a legal eye over the policy as some of the "insurance" for events doesn't seem to be worth the piece of paper its written on. I'm sure you boys (and girls) have done the research on insurance but its the single biggest issue with any comp and I know for everyone's sake id hate to see a repeat of what happened at the last Nissan Trials that was run.

I hope you get the numbers you're after, as Willowglen was way down on entries this year ( due to the required rego I believe, and that's why I didn't compete) and I know that there are many of the better vehicles in that challenge class not returning next year as they are wanting to ditch the rego and also step up the vehicle mods.

Anyway, i'm hoping it works out for you and you can possibly run unregoed vehicles in future years.
Everyone loves a 40!

This comp is definatly a single car event run similar to opposite lock challenge or blackrat or even a bit like nissan trials. This event is really aimed at all levels of vehicles (registed :) ) especially the more standard/less modified cars. So to all the unregoed guys out there why not enter your tow vehicle or maybe the wifes 4wd in the standard class? Get back to the basics of things, maybe even both u and your partner can compete in the same 4wd and see who's really the better driver, u be supprised, at one of our past comps a femal l plater with a fully licensed in car navi won the standard class! I know that most of u big rigs out there have another lesser car and this is the event to make buying that second car with the low range stick worthwile. Wouldnt it be great to not have to worry bout loading on the big rig and strapping down all those spares but still being able to maybe stand next to a mate on the podium at the end of a good weekend with a prize in hand. Think about it!!

hi guys
lets not all worry about insurance issues as we are taking care of that all you need to worry about at this stage is that your car has rego and at least 3rd party insurance if anything changes we will tell you. As for now if your club is part of the association and you would like to enter the comp send an email too woodpeckerchallange@outlook.com and we will get some forms out to your club once its all green lights thanks for your patience and hope to see you soon

at this stage guys work with these rules and we will see if it needs any changes
ALL CLASSES MUST HAVE REGO
Standard Class: Max of a 33"tyre and 2-3" of lift. No lockers (only FACTORY rear LSD).
Modified Class: Max of a 35" tyre and up to 4" of lift. Only one locker front or rear and factory LSD. If vehicle has dual lockers driver must elect to not use one locker, or disable (pull fuse) to fall into this class. If driver/vehicle seen using both lockers, zero points will be awarded for that stage.
Open Class: Max of a 37" tyre and up 6" lift. Dual diff lock and factory suspension mounts. Aftermarket HD arms ok. Helmets are required.
Outlaw Class: No limits to suspension setups ('A' Frames, triangulated 4 Links, coil conversion to leaf sprung vehicle, etc). Helmets and window nets are required. VEHICLE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED and papers will be sighted at scrutineering.

All vehicles are to have fire extinguisher, rated recovery points and basic recovery gear. There will be different color number stickers issued to represent classes. REGISTRATION & INSURANCE PAPERS MUST BE CURRENT AND WILL BE SIGHTED AT SCRUTINEERING. Classing will be at the discretion of marshals at scrutineering.
One day the project will be finished

Is lift defined as suspension, ie I have 4" suspension lift and 2" body, would that be classed as 6" lift or still 4"?

I run a stock standard Hilux leaf spring front and rear. Does this mean I have no lift??
