Removing engine from 1994 hilux 4x4 XC

Post by CWBYUP »

I have just bought a hilux XC with the 2.4l 22r engine in it.

I need to replace it and haven't done a lux before.

Is it best to pull the engine separately or take engine and gear box in one ?

Will be doing it in my shed with an engine cram if it makes a differance.

Cheers Nick

You could do either bud, I've taken them out both ways but you have to take gear sticks off obviously.

It's really 50/50 either way.

Personally I'd probably do just the engine tho as it just saves having to muck around with driveshafts and crossmember but just remember to hold up the front of the gearbox otherwise it will drop a bit once the engine is out.

Get hold of a large (2" wide) ratchet strap. strap it from chassis rail to chassis rail and under the bellhousing. This will support the gearbox nice and safe. Use two smaller ratchet straps to hold the suspension compressed before lifting motor as well. Just little tricks that make the job easier.
