fzj 105r pros and cons?
hi guys so i have been looking at a GXL fzj 105r landcruiser and was wondering if anyone knows of the pros and cons?

FZJ105r Are fantastic cars. Yes they will use a lot of fuel. 13l / 100ks on the highway 18l / 100 around town so it's only towing or soft sand where it will climb above 20l. I had an 80 with a chip and an exhaust and you can get that down if you want to spend the money and keep it long term. I have had mine for 15 months and done 25,000ks and I had and FZJ80r before that. Huge internal space in the 105r. They are very car like to drive. Build quality and comfort are light years ahead on even a brand spanker GU. The brakes are very well assisted and they stop and turn on a dime, especially in an emergency. I did blow up the diff 2nd trip out but it was age really 200ks and 13 years old and it's full time so that front diff is doing a lot of work. Bought a 2nd hand diff had it reco'd and it's been great. Total cost about $800. For a big car it is absolutely effortless to drive it does everything you want comfortably. Plenty of power with huge potential for more. I added 33" all terrains and 2" spring and with the standard suspension it's great offroad too.
The reason I bought mine was I wanted a big 4WD wagon coming from 60 and 80 wagons. As tempting as it was to spend another 5k and get a V8 IFS ( which are a touch better on fuel ) I really wanted solid axle's all round and 5k is still 5k it would take me 10+ years to get the fuel saving of the V8 back + I hate CV boots! The GXL's have stronger gearboxes over the standard diesels so heaps of life in the box.
One of the main reasons the resale is good on them is the 8 seats. Not many cars around that are 8 seats. Plenty of 7's but very few 8 seaters. All in all it's been a fantastic car ( as you would expect from toyota ) to buy the same thing new it's 80k so for under 20k you get a car that drives like a car, tows like a truck and goes off road really well.

My point was that the pros are also the cons. It is subject to personal differences.
Pro: Has solid front axle, great for hardcore off road
con: has solid front axle, crap for on road handling and ride.
Pro: big comfy wagon
Con: giant whale that is difficult to park/navigate through tight tracks.

Only catch is they don't mind a bit of a drink, though they're much much much cheaper to buy and service than a TD.
Big trucks, super capable, comfy, well built, mine didn't get any water in it stuck with it half way up the doors, fit bigger tyres easy.
The front end has a glass jaw if you abuse it and don't know that a spinning wheel coming down under full gass isn't good on a stocker. But can be easily built to be very strong.
