g16a sierra gearbox

ok im going to bite the bullet and put a g16a in.
what have most poeple done have they bought the kit from suzisports or have they just moded the gearbox to suit? what engine mounts do you use ? what cluch do you use ? can i use the inlet manifold and carby setup from my 1.3? does it use the same exuast manifold?
do i need to put a electronic fuel pump in?
do i need to put a different radiotor in ?
how much is a reasonalable price for a 1.6? thanks jake

I had tabs welded to the box
I reckon that droopypete had the best idea nad tapped new holes into the block ... not funky adapter plates or gearbox housings
you can make up an adapter plate for the engine mounts it's not all that hard (I dont have any pics, sorry)
I used several different clutch's in mine, heavy duty standard type, centreforce, sintered copper "puk" style with centerforce pressure plate, and puk style with stock pressure plate ..
The centreforce was probarbly the best, but apparently the Dakin extreme is als very good and a few less $$
Yes you can use the 1.3 inlet and exhaust
depending on the motor you may need and electric fuel pump .. the carbed motors had pumps same as 1.3's
I used a stock rad on my 1.6 with no heating issues at all, even pukking 35's I never had overheating problems..
For a bare 1.6 I would expect to pay around 500 I guess ..

thanks for that i found the tread from droopepete about tapping the holes in the block i think thats what i will do . The reason i want to use the 1.3 inlet and carby is because i just had it rebuilt . The motor i was looking at is bare he wants $500 exchange dosnt sound to bad if i can use the inlet from my 1.3 .

I would double check but i think the 1.6 vitaras had a different carby but on the same manifold.
When i went to buy my first sierra i drove one with the g16a motor in it, and it didnt really go any harder then a 1.3.
When speaking to the guy at suzisport was told that it probably had the 1.3 carby still on it and it wasn't probably to its potential. As the carby on 1.6 is slightly taller and hits the bonnet, and was told that a small bonnet scoop was needed when these carbys are used.
Just double check not 100% but thats what i was told.

Vitaras were definately different carby - there are issues with them though. If you're happy to use the 1.3 carby or a weber with a bit of re-work use it, as vitara carbies usually sell for about $400 recoed, and if not recoed are probably stuffed and still not cheap.

When I swapped in my 1.6 I used a complete motor (fan to flywheel) that included the carb, you need to make a few small alterations to the air inlet at the top of the carb so it sits a little lower ans also use the mounting stud from the 1.3 carb.
I ended up using my the "spare" 1.3 top end (Intake and head) to send off to a head doctor to get it ported and gasket matched, I used the 1.6 carb on it once al that had been done ..
