help wiring a wireless remote setup for winch box.

Post by Cokeaddict »

Hey guys,
I have a wireless remote setup to use on my warn winch. But wiring it up as per instructions don't work.
Anyone know where the wires go so that I can use both the wireless and the warn hand control as a back up.

I have a warn VR12000 (import model BUT same setup as most) Its a 5 pin.
The wireless has the usual 4 wires. The instructions show how to set it up on a 3 pin not a 5 pin.
RED
BLACK
YELLOW
WHITE.
(Blue being the antenna)
I know the red connects to the battery terminal on the relay post... thats connected.

The instructions tells me that the black connects to the original earth wire comming from the 5 pin ( that original black wire connects to the earth bolt on the winch motor with the negative battery cable) So thats where I have it ATM. but im not sure thats where it should go.
Both the yellow and the white wires are winch IN and winch OUT ( or so i am assuming thats what the are).

Problem is, when i wire it up nothing happens. Done lots of google searches and some suggest they have had to bridge a brown wire to allow the controller to work but I dont want to try that incase i blow things up.

I will attach pictures showing you my control box setup
All I need is someone to tell me where to wire up the wires comming from the wireless receiver box and where they need to be connected to.

I have spoken to 2 local auto sparkies and both have never done one so I dont want to leave the car with them. I know a few of you guys have purchased this ebay wireless setup and hooked it up so im just hoping one of you will read this post and tell me where I need to connect the wires.
Thanks in advance guys.

This is my exact setup including wire colours and location....

UPDATE.... just read a comment from a search site in USA, guy said .. "you must ground the soleniods (brown wires) and apply power (+) to the winch in/out for it to work". This is an added safety feature with warn 5 pin models. Does this make any sense to u guys and if so.. hows that done

Wiring the wireless remote is straight forward there is one caution though the Warn Winch uses the Cord Remote as an isolate device to prevent winch from working and only when plugged in, so fitting a wireless remote creates a danger that the winch can be run by accident.
This is how we wire them up
BLUE – Aerial
BLACK – Splice to the Winch Motor Earth (Red wire marked Winch Motor Earth)
YELLOW / WHITE – Winch IN Winch OUT
RED – 12v Battery, This is the important bit you need to install an Isolate Switch (on the Dash is best) and a 10 amp fuse between the Red wire and 12v terminal on the control
Use a water proof fuse block 10A fuse attach to 12V Battery terminal (Control Box) then run 2 wires through firewall to switch and back, the return wire connect to the Red
Wiring this way you can still use to cord remote and wireless
Reason for the Isolate switch is to prevent anyone from accidently running Winch
Hope that helps
