I recently bought one of these with the 7 speed Auto and am fairly happy with it. For those that know I still have the GU Patrol with the XR6 Turbo motor, but since I moved to Mt Isa, and LPG availability is crap, the patrol is now my weekend offroader. (Plus lpg prices are compared to Vic metro)
Does anyone else on here have one.? I want to fit a 2" Lift, Front locker and 16" rims and tyres. The intention here is for an economical Diesel outback tourer, which the GU isn't. Rang 4WDsystems today and found the lokka is not available for the front yet. Bullbars are also limited due to the large front intercooler.
I towed my boat to Burketown and averaged 12.5L/100 on dirt roads. The new utes are definately economical.

My mate just got one and fitted a 2 inch tough dog lift and after 3 different sets of springs on the front struts they couldnt get more than 20mm lift out of the front. The first 2x sets only gave 10mm.
Tough dog have wiped their hands of the problem, I would be careful when oredering a 2inch lift for one I dont think the aftermarket suppliers are aware just how heavy the motor is.
I believe ARB have just released a bullbar for them
Thanks for the heads up. I do hate how the D40's have a unique wheel stud pattern of 6 nuts on 4.5" PCD instead of cruiser and patrol stud pattern of 6 nuts on 5.5" PCD. It makes wheel options that much more limited.

Outback tourer and a Lokka? pick one or the other in my opinion. The last thing you want on a wet red dirt/clay road is a locked front end that you cant unlock. Pretty much means you'll be limited to 2wd or sub 30-40kph if you get caught in the rain on a dirt road. Again, IMO.
I'd assume d40 will have auto hubs? how do lokkas go with them?
D40's dont have hubs. The front diff is aways spinning. In 2WD with Auto lockers you wouldn't know that you had a lokka fitted, from experience with the GU and hubs locked. In 4WD power on and it locks, coast and it unlocks.
I have a Reinell 185LS boat just like below. A bit too nice for Burketown Barra fishing.
As for the lokka. Would it cause undue wear spinning in its "unlocked" position all the time? I looked into a eaton auto locker at one stage years ago and from memory it was just a ramped gear that slipped a tooth or two if one wheel went faster than the other, under power the teeth, sort of, clamped together. The clutch/teeth/gears were always in contact though. Are the lokkas the same design?
Was the Burketown pub still standing when you went through? I heard it burnt down. We got stupid drunk there and ended up rolling out our swags in the park next door. In the morning we were woken up with free bacon and egg sangas by the publican. We also changed my mates busted transfer case in the beer garden! Great pub/publican.
Interested in this thread, interesting to hear about the front lift issues, I was thinking of the coil spacers, I just want the clearance to fit bigger tyres so if a lift allows the tyres to come all the way back up then it'll scrub anyway.
I'm planning on touring with mine as well, so max travel isn't a huge issue. The stx comes with traction control doesn't it?
STX has traction control but not in low range i believe. I might go the coil spacers as well. Harrop / Eaton e-lockers are available for D40's now but i have to check if they have one for the V6 diesel.
go the arb bar, only one available that is airbag compliant that looks any good. that may change your ride height though. tjm make a 35mm lift front strut witha 10mm spacer to account for front barwork, might be the way to go. put the tjm stuff under my wifes amarok and it rides really good, sit nice and is level, even with a winch/bar.
I'm a bit confused with lifting the front, the spacers would be great for lifting for bigger tyres, but to compensate for bar work would just lift the front and give me compressed springs wouldn't it?
What color did you get.? Mine is white and the only nissan accesory I got was a heavy duty towbar. I bought mine due to 3 things. The engine, 7 Speed Auto and 0.5% financing for 3 years.
I took a new manual Ranger for a spin (they didn'y have an Auto available for a test drive) and liked it, (Appearance of the new Ranger's is better than the Nav's) but Ford weren't offering any good deals on financing.
I got white as well, black bull bar, tint, tow bar, snorkel and tub liner.
1 engine
2 gearbox
3 Nm
I'm looking at all the "lift kits" around, most of them are spacers and lifting blocks etc.
Might just get the coil spacers and the lifting blocks, maybe some rear shocks and some bigger rubber.
That'll get me 4 inches higher off the deck, get the speedo right and add some attitude.
Only other thing I need is lights, thinking hid, light bar.
I also want to do grill flashing amber lights, eBay has some cheap kits, but I'm thinking it isn't worth the effort. Not sure where to go here, I'll talk to the sparky and see what he thinks.
I want to tour with it, so a box for the tray is also on the agenda, don't think there. Is much else to worry about.
I have the same ARB bar as you and ARB under vehicle protection (Bash plates). I have front strut coil spacers but have fitted 35mm longer extended ball joints. Wheel travel is good, but I need to get my alignment fixed.
Are you pissed off with how you cant hold 1st gear in low range manual mode.? I fixed mine with some wiring and switches.
At the time I bought my plates they didn't have V6 ones available. I had to make some mods to fit mine. Mostly the front bulbar mounting point (added a 50x25mm RHS cross member with nutserts) and extra nutserts for the transmission plate.
They now have plates to suit the V6, although they aren't listed on their webpage. You can see the detail in this video.
Hey guys, on the underbody plates thing, I bought some Tough Dog ones for it (ARB are just too dear) and all I could get was the Navara ones. Now the third plate wont fit because there are some diagonal braces on the chassis at the rear of the cross member behind the engine.
Does yours have these braces & if they do did you have to mod your plates to fit? Its where the third plate will fit under the transmission.
I just want to suss out if the local dude who sold me these things is telling me porkys.
Don't ask me, ask them. I'm just runnin for my life myself.
Well they are all following you...
No they ain't, I'm just in front...............
Yeah mine has the diagonal braces. The ARB plates just mate up flush with the bottom. The only mods on the transmission plate was to add 4 M8 nutserts for 4 new bolts. This was because the holes in the cross member didn't line up with the ARB holes. I could have probably got away with only 2 bolts but wanted 4 installed.
Fitted a hot side pipe from https://plazmaman.com/shop_itemdetail.p ... 371&cate=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; install was easy enough, 40mins two screwdrivers and a 12mm spanner. You use the existing clips off the stock hose.
Turbo lag was improved, traction control had to work a bit harder in the rain yesterday.
Had my Bull Bar off to fit a winch, noticed the intercooler was weeping oil, mentioned it at my 40k service (ouch) and its getting replaced under warranty without debate.
You are clocking up the klms fast. I have just hit 30K. I refuse to get mine serviced at Nissan. I do my own service's as I reckon Nissan are pretty bad when it comes
to warrantee claims. I will keep a close look on mine.
