I have a GQ 4.2 petrol carby and I suspect that one of the valves may have receded into the head or is burnt. I am going to do a compression test to see what cylinder is the problem. It is fairly low mileage but it has been on LPG for most of its life.
The heads are fairly expensive to reco I have been informed so as an option I maybe able to get a second hand 4.5 EFI engine from a friend. Is it possible to install the larger engine and configure it to operate it with a carby. Not really interested in do all the EFI harness, electric fuel pump change over.
Basically install the 4.5 and utilise the carby manifold. Doable???
regards

Re: GU 4.5 into a GQ
Hi if you use existing manifolds it should work fine maybe lack full power on petrol but you can adjust LPG for full power no problems.
Re: GU 4.5 into a GQ
Maybe worth checking the manifolds do interchange. I remember reading somewhere that the in let manifolds were not interchangable. Could well be wrong but worth checking all the same.
Anything is possible, it just comes down to time and money.

Re: GU 4.5 into a GQ
Check you ignition requirements too, the EFI usually handles the ignition from a Hall effect sensor on the distributor spindle - may not be compatible with the GQ's ignition system.
