Post by tuff 45 »

what sort of l/100kms are you getting? I had a v8 100 and sold it due to the crap economy with 2" lift and 33's.. would always avg 20-22l/100kms normal driving.. I could get it down to 18-19l/100kms if i babied it.. pretty sad really. In my research before buying the v8 i recall reading the v6 4.5lt petrol would get the same/similar economy even though it was 2 less cylinders..

My fzj80 on lpg 30l/100km. Best way to save fuel, leave it in the driveway :D
Take all acc off when not being used will help a bit.

I've got an 02 105 and have found that if I put the boot down so goes my economy.
Have found that on the highway if I keep it around 2200rpm (about 98km) then I will get 20/100.
Have fitted a UniChip the otherday and although early days yet, it is a far better truck to drive and looks like I should expect around the 16-17/100 mark. that is towing a camp trailer as well.

What did the chip cost and what is involved in fitting, might be the way to go, my other option is to sell it and get the turbo diesel 80 series, shouldve bought one in the first place

Got it fitted in Sydney, Auto Tech at Granville. $1300 including before and after Dyno. Single map.
If you are expecting a race car then don't but for a far smoother drive good torque through the range. Holds the gears longer under load and a couple of litres per 100 better fuel economy.
I don't flog it, have found that crusing on the highway by keeping around the 2200rpm mark will give me around 98kmh towing gets the best economy
Remember it a petrol not deisel. Unless you have already fitted a snorkel, headers with at least a 21/2 inch system then dont bother,
Dyno results here

thats about 23L/100km, sucks but pretty normaly for a 3 tonne rig drinking petrol towing a trailer - I have had as bad as 25-26L per 100km on a long haul no trailer (but roofrack full 60cm high) with 5 people on board.

They are thirsty - add load and they go through the roof. In all honesty If you you want better ecconomy and are not a power nazi and you drive it regularly, sell it and buy a diesel or do a conversion. The only way i would go petrol is for a weekend warrior that stays close to home. My diesel 105 drinks enough compared to our 'town' car that it stays home most of the time on pure ecconomics.

But it can also help to look at how many k's you do per year allow 50% more fuel (say 13.5L to 20L) for the petrol but 15% (on average) less per litre = say $1.10 and $1.26.

The diesel costs $170 per 1000km in fuel.
The diesel costs $1700 per 10000km in fuel.

The petrol costs $ 220 per 1000km in fuel.
The petrol costs $2200 per 100km in fuel.

So at current low fuel costs thats only $500 per year for 10000km - not as bad as it feels- caviate % changes in fuel obviously effect this. you do alot of k's and yeah it makes a bigger difference.
