40 series suspension

Hi all.
I'm looking for advice to cheaply lift my fj 40 (long wheel base) troopy
Anyone know what else fits. Eg 60 series leafs etc

Ive got a set or OME front leafs you can have

distance be an issue
in albury wodonga

for the rear
a work buddy put a set of surf coils under the rear
He had left over from his other 4by

made a bracket to contain the coil on top of the diff

And used the metal bump stop to retain the top coil

What are the springs like and what size ie 2"/3", are they worth me chucking you a few bucks to pay for postage?

Check out the cruiser bible sticky.. its got a topic with using 60 leaves in a shorty..

you can use 75 leaves up front but they push your diff forward 50mm so need to work with brake lines, drive shafts, etc. Get some nice flex out of them though.. you could go 79 leaves in the rear of a troopy but most likely will need move spring hangers, etc.

I'll jump on this band wagon. Looking at replacing my rear springs in my 45 which have sagged, as no one resets spring up here in Bundy anymore. I haven't been able to find a decent suspension shop in town that knows there stuff ( everyone wants to just throw coils at it). What brands should I be looking at? I want as light as possible as this is a play rig only.

And any other alternatives that I may not have thought of.

Measure your springs, go to the wreckers and try some from a 60 or 75 you might find that 75 rears are similar and can be a straight swap, you might even find 2" lifted 75 springs..

The 45 standards work really well and have the pack pretty much down now, so I would rather stick to what works. And I want to keep it the same wheel base as the front has been extended 2", But I may look into it. Any ideas on a true and tested brand of new springs? Just a pre bought pack or is there someone who makes custom springs?

YMMV with bought springs as I've read varying reports from multiple people with them being too short, etc. Dobinsons made custom packs for Twisty's 40 but they are likely to require mount modifications.. everything else I've done personally has been with factory springs from other models.

Ive had OME
heavy full optioned.. winch and bar
they were really good till I had 3front leafs fail in about2years
leaf that failed is what contains the nolathane bush ?
Both left and right... side.

Great set of springs but pissed off that it failed me 3times now.

gone with ULTIMATE in the front and still running the OME in the rear.

from new the OME was really good ride loaded up
but having three leaf packs fail
has me never going back
and ultimate from now on.

leafs are thicker and better support than the ONE
rides the same I believe
they also can do custom stuff..
gvm upgrades even for a 40series.
didnt get the best service from ultimate..
sending the wrong springs
but getting a OME leaf pack sent urgent through arb was an ordeal and a half..
soo not doing that again

OME flexes superb off road and rides nice for a leaf 4by
I just got sick of replacing leaf springs that kept breaking
and arb wasnt even interested in that uve had 3 go in two years
or any warranty

ULTIMATE.. havent done any 4wding with it soo far but quite confident in the product.
rode awesome when I first fitted it up


with OME And running 33x12.5x15inch tyres
I scrub the crap out of my front guards on the inner lip of the outside fold.
also scrubs the crap out of the guard bracket where said guard is bolted to chassis

Thanks for the update, I was thinking OME. It's seems to be a tried and tested brand. Bit concerning about the failures all the same. Who was supplying the ultimate brand? Or did you find them online?

Punch in ultimate and ring them
I got my mechanic..mate of mne who said ultimate..
I just was throwing money at arb.. and ive spent a fortune in there stores with all the gear I bought.

ultimate sell directly I think.
cant fault the product, just sent the wrong springs

Any other vehicle ill buy in future will get ultimate.

OME was brilliant but pissed me off having soo many leafs fail

The leaf spring broke at the shackle end of the front springs.
both sides did this.

Trouble with OME the second leaf from the top..
It doesnt curl and reinforce the main leaf

utimate second leaf curls the main..
soo if the main gets some serious flex..
the second leaf restrains it from going too far.
acting like a keeper spring.

OME hasnt got this second leaf setup.
its got support but doesnt restrict the main leaf from pulling apart from the second

All good mate, I have seen what you are explaining on custom made springs before.
