Modification Laws regarding Light Trucks

Post by 4_low »

Hi, Im just starting to look at modifying a light weight Dyna 200 Truck. It is a 94 model and it can be driven on a car licence.

I have been given the truck for free to use as its the family business's old truck and now only get used to move a little excavator from time to time. The plain is to put the buggy im building on the back of the truck and tow a camper trailer behind the truck.

The truck currently struggles with a 2t excavator on the back and is a little low on power and gearing so im thinking a engine swap might be on the cards. It currently has a 3b engine in it.

Im also looking at redoing the suspension on it and taking the heavy duty leafs of it and chucking a set of standard weight leafs and a set of air bags.

Then im going to have to do a once over from front to back as it has been abused in the past. redo the tray.

As this is still driven on a car licence does it fall under the normal modification laws? or does this come into the heavy transport modification laws?

I'm not sure of the answer on your original question, however I have a 92 model dyna 4wd light truck with no engine. I bought it for the 4wd conversion to my 2000 model dyna tipper but it never happened. If you are interested in converting yours to 4wd PM me

jackson.baker Thanks but im going to keep it as a 2wd as it will only see towing duties into 4wd parks and races.

Yeah no worries mate, if you pull that 3b motor let me know. A motor is the only thing missing from this one I might buy it from you.

Not that you probably care now and have worked it out, but if the GVM is under 4.5t its a car legally and rego wise in NSW.
