Maxidrive upgrade for ser 1 disco.

Post by 5inchgq »

Ok, I've been away from here for quite a while, but have just scored a series one turbo diesel disco. Having owned patrols and cruisers I'm a little concerned the about breaking driveline bits.

I have found a parts car that has a set of maxidrive axles in it. It's cheap so contrary to what my mrs thinks I'll be grabbing it soon.

My question is putting stronger axles in will mean broken centres yeah ? What if the centres were locked ?

Will a set of 285/75-16s see me breaking things regularly ?

Hey man!

I'll keep it brief and simple!

Not going to be as strong as nissan gear.

Will break if you drive it like a patrol!

But will drive stuff with a bit more ease so shouldn't have to drive it as such.

With 33s you should be ok to give it a bit of stick.

Locked centres will def help, as standard single cross pin thirds fail very easily.

The 300tdi can be made to perform quite well also but most are slugs, autos especially!

Hope you enjoy the land rover adventure!

Love

Grimace,

thanks man.

I had the parts car sold out from under me which pissed me off no end seeing as it had MD axles frontand rear, MD locker in the front and a arb locker in the rear...
Anywho I recently spoke to the resident rover guru in this one horse town and he assures me I'll be fine. So I'm planning on a 2" body lift to go with the 2" springs that are in it already, I'll be comping in no time !!!!
