Your Thoughts On Black Rat Recovery Gear

i bought a black rat recovery bag today that included the following



    8000lbs Snatch Strap
    2 U Bolt Shackles
    Riggers Gloves


all for 89$ was this a good buy or stupid buy?????? i havnt heard anything about black rat, except that it is really good for the price

your thoughts please???

i have a black rat high lift, bow shackles, and snatch block and havent had any trouble with it..

I've got the same kit - RRP is suposedly around $110. The strap did very well in the 4WD Monthly comparo a while back.

Well I got ripped then because I paid $130 for my kit with that in it, but yes I am happy with mine also.

i got given a hi lift jack ... black issue ... and its heaps better built then
the one i have now ... only problem is .. its bigger and doesn't fit where
the old one used to

I bought the full kit:

2 x shackles (4.? ton)
1 x snatch strap
1 x 20m winch extension strap
1 x snatch block
1 x tree trunk protector
1 pair of gloves
All in a bag

I think it was something like $300.

I reckon it is top gear :armsup:

They definatly sell some top quality recovery gear, thats for sure.
Havnt had any probs with my snatchy.

there were issues apparently with their kit while back, maybe they are better than the early ones.

Club in sydney was warning people not go with it due to soem accidents that had happened causing injuries and stuff.

I think the main issue was the snatch block. The circlip holding the shaft was easily damaged, and the block could come apart under load. They issued a recall and have fixed the problem.
I destroyed a snatch strap when I was testing them for a thesis on snatch loads. We did the equivalent of about 100 snatches over 2 weekends. It frayed badly along the edges, and we were doubtful of its integrity after that

Don't all manufacturers recommend you stop using the strap once it starts fraying? They don't last forever, and I'll be ecstatic :armsup: if I get 100 snatches out of my strap!

concidering 100 snatches is a fwe years worth usually, ur not doing to baad at all :armsup:

picked up the same kit at the wandin show for $50 coz the bag had a seam come apart. I wasnt complaining!

I was reading on their website they did a test on the shackles, and the 4.75 tonne shackle broke at 33 tonne, and the 3.5 broke at 28 tonne.

The snatch strap also rated in the top 5 in 4WD monthly test aswell from memory.
