Which Toy ARBs to use with Jac Mac set-up?

Hey guys,

Thought I'd ask the people at large.

Michael (HSV Rangie) has been SO kind as to help me out on details and overcoming the "infamous" JM customer service.

Well, with HSV's healp (that sounds technical enough), we've decided to go this direction:

From JM:
front & rear 30 spline axles, flanges, and modified swivles

From JY (Junk Yard):
front & rear Toy 3rd members

From US:
Longfields & 4.88 R&Ps

From ARB:
Dual Lockers (RD23???)

So this particular post is in regards to the ARBs...do I need RD23s? Reason for asking is that I'll have to go to the junk yards here in KSA and try to locate a front Hi-Pinionand rear "normal) 3rd membre out of a toyota, and will be taking the local ARB dealer with me who will help me identify the 3rd member needed to use the JM specific ARB...

i believe the RD01 and the RD23 will fit the hilux centres...
what ratio high pinion fronts can be found in Lebanon

I went with the RD23 because they use larger carrier bearings than the RD01....

Yeah I was kinda sure the RD23s are the way to go. Not sure of the ratios we can find here, but I am trying to figure out a ratio that I can find stock and get aftermarket ones the same. Reason being is that I want to get Precision Gear or Superior R&Ps from the US to make sure I'm running an ALL virgin set-up.

I recall that Toys come with 4.1s, 4.56s, 4.88s, 5.29s, and 5.71s...I'm aiming to strike gold with teh 4.88s.

I believe the 4.8's only came in 1 particular model Bundera, which is a short wheelbase cruiser...not sure if you get them in Lebanon....
Best bet would be to get whatever high pinion front you can from an 80 series cruiser and them import the ratios of your choice from the states

I can use 80 series 3rd members? I thought it was only Hi-Lux. Anyways, I do not think I will break the 4.88s.

KSA (Saudi") is full of Toys, so I can find whatever I want. 80s are PLENTY.

In Aus, 80's are 4.1:1, 100's are 4.3:1 the fronts are high pinion. I think hi lux are low pinion. 80's rear wont fit rover housing.

Yeah...

Final Outcome is to use the RD23s, and for that, I'll be needing an 80 front Hi-pinion HOUSING (trying to get some WITHOUT the gears and diff), and a rear Hi-Lux or 4 Runner V6 Housing. Should be had at 100$ for both MAX.

That should bring down the cost pretty much.

I'll have to call up HSV/Sam once I get under the truck and power us up the tools!

Another Idea...

In order to have Hi-pinion front and rear...why don't i get DUAL 80s front Hi-pinion housings? Anyone have any idea against this?

you dont want to be running the HP in the rear
when driving forward you will be riding on the reverse side of the crown wheel which is pretty weak

We contemplated similar when doing Landymans lux 3rd's, we found that the l/p lux 3rd wont fit without fouling the drag link, so we thought about flipping the front 3rd to clear the track rod but then the c+p would be on the wrong side and running in the wrong direction. Could be made to work but it was easier to get the h/p front and know that it would be fine.
Where in Lebanon are you ? I was working in Israel (Acre ) 10 years ago.
