60 SERIES REAR DIFF INTO REAR 80 SERIES

Post by Red Rover »

I have a back locker from a 60 series 81 model, will it go into the front of a 97 gxl 4500 80 series. I think they won't cause the front is a hilux diff & the only one it will go into is a poverty pack 80, i'm just not sure though. Any help is appreciated

Does that mean 60 series front diffs are stronger than 80 series?

diff fitment

Post by davejb »

60 and 80 series carriers interchange, ie. arb or detroit you have to replace the bearings as the diameters are different. Other than this they fit ok. I look at doing the same when I was looking to buy an 80 series and fitting the detroit from the 60 series

good luck Dave

Gday
As Dave said, the 60 ctr with its bearings will fit into an 80 carrier, visa versa.
Another thing you can consider is swapping the pumpkins, because the 60 centre wholus bolus will fit in the 80 housing. The 60 is 4.11 and the 80 is 4.10, not much diff-erent...lol

this is same for 75 series too. i just swapped in rear 80 series diff assembly into my 73 series (same as 75). so therefore, 60 series diif complete should fit into 75

so if looking for a locker, 60, 73, 75 and 80 are interchangable with a bearing change??

is this correct?

*rear only* of 80
*rear only* 75, 1992 and after (i think that was the year)
73
60
55
40

they are all the same. only difference is 80s and 75s have bigger pinion bearings.

being an 81 i think you will find that it is the old block style yoke so it wont bolt up to your tail shaft. get a multi drilled one from motospec or sunstate spares and you will be laughing, they cost about 70 bucks and are very handy for turning 60's in to the ZJ series diffs.
