fuels

Post by acn9479 »

donts know if this has been discussed before, but whats everyones thoughts on what fuel to run the zooks on. i've tried the premium before and if feels slugish (even for a zook). is that just my bad tuning or what

did the economy increase enough to pay for the difference in price or do you justify it for the other reasons?

My zook doesnt seem to react to the premium as good as other cars. It seems a bit better on economy, cant notice any difference in power. But on other cars the difference is like night & day, I had a little charade and it was amazing it got a extra 100ks out of tank and went like a rocket compared to normal ULP same goes for a excel.

Oh and optimax and BP ultimate are 98 octane compared to 95 of the others and way better. The vortex is crap I get better economy using normal ULP than the vortex.

i'm running PULP to stop the engine pinging, makes heaps of difference for that, but don't really notice much power/economy increase. been running mobil 8000, seems pretty good, and is 98

dunno... it's their super-duper premium, apparently they don't sell it at all mobils, and it's kinda expensive. asked my ricer mate and they reckon it's the bomb :D

I run optimax or the mobil 8000 stuff too... did with the old engine, and am still running the cap on it too.

I don't know if the 1.3 got more power out of it - but it didn't 'ping' as much as on normal fuel..

I run hi octane unleaded in my sierra (my motor is an import G13B barina/swift)
Ive found it to be kinder to the carby, ie less blocking up of jets etc, also my spark plugs dont fail so quickly, and fuel economy is better. It could be all in my mind, tho..When broke I run normal unleaded.
most early pre 86 zooks will run perfectly on unleaded, too, with a slight change to timing, as japan was lead free for long time before we were. christover

I used OPTIMAX in my 1.3 and now in the 1.6 vit , seems to work well with a little extra power.

HAHA I have never meet a Mirage driver that isn't going to put a Mivec in one day. Rarely see one done though.

Seeing your engines are designed for the 95 octane you will have to tune them properly to get the most out of the 98 octane fuels. Sure they may feel smoother and get better milage but there is always more to be had if done properly.
My 4A engine is designed to run RON101 in japan it runs like a dog on 95. I have to back the factory timing off to run it.
BP seems to be the best fuel followed by Shell. I have read shells optimax is only 95 octane boosted to 98 at a molecular lever or something like that so it eventually goes back to 95 after a while. BP unltimate is pure 98.
This is only what I have read and heard and have no actual facts to back this up.

Yeah I reckon I get the best results out of ultimate but the closest BP that sells it is 200k's from here. Optimax is just up the road.

I run premium mainly to stop pinging even before we put the blower on it.

With the boost, premium is necassary and the difference is much more transparent that when I had tried both on the carby. You can tell when you get crap premium.
