Flywheel
God of Magnificant Ideas!
Do you intend to drag race it ?????????
Lightening the flywheel is only nessecary for a horsepower gain, the engine will rev up a bit quicker aswell...... you'll need to remove a fair amount to get any real performance gain too by the way. I doubt whether you'll even "feel" any differance, but a DYNO would show it.
Drawbacks are.....
less engine torque, zero availibility to remachine, flywheel will need rebalancing, engine will die quicker when loaded ( ie; long uphill hauls).
A major risk with this mod is over reving the motor ...... it will be alot easier to do with a light flywheel...... and thats expensive !! been here !!
Also look at the thrust bearing carrier, it may need to be modded to reach the clutchplate...... mind you that will depend on how much you intend to "lighten" the flywheel.
Just get the surface remachined and its done !
