OUTBACK CHALLENGE

Post by The Fish »

Who from here is competing this year? The two drivers I have navigated for in the past 3 years aren't competing this year so I'll just have to watch and read everyone else's adventures :cry: , unless someone has an empty nav seat :armsup:

Let us know how your preparations are going.

Not his year NAM. :cry:

Plans are Alpine Challenge teamed up with Birdy and then off to do the New Zealand Challenge later in the year.

Good luck Mal, hope you do well.
Joe.

As I sit here at home thinking about whats going on around Broken Hill & wishing I was there, the phone rings and it's Hobzee. He reckons he's gunna ring me daily and fill me in on the happenings. I don't know if he's just rubbing it but, there's always next year!
So here goes;
Last night they had a dry creek run along Stephens Ck and today they have done the prologue which, this year, was a single run with a recovery section on the way. They have all been split into groups and are heading out to their competition areas where some may do an SS or ISS while others may sleep or repair trucks.
Issues so far include;
*Celia getting bogged in Ck last night, then blowing a fuseable link
*Celia having winch problems during prologue and blowing fuseable link (hope they get that V6 sorted)
*Sandy & Greenie broke a tail shaft in prologue
*Hummer damaged a g/box mount in prologue
*I believe all are still competing and some that did really good last night suffered penalties today Chunk (VIC) leaving Cass (WA) Dallas (VIC) and NZ Dude all going great guns.
As I hear more I will post more but please don't hold me responsible for any miss-information as this is coming via PRO COMP Hobbzee and his mobile phone and will get less informative as the week progresses as he gets more tired.
Thats all for now!

I went up to OBC for the weekend to surprise Sandy, long way but it was worth it. Will have a few photos to post up this arvo.
There will be alot of tuff competition out there for everyone, I have never seen so many $$$$ thrown at cars for an event.
Top 5 after Saturday Night's dry creek stage was
1. Cass Jones - WA - 2m55s
2. Greg Scanlan - VIC - 3m03s
3. Dallas Rundle - VIC - 3m04s
4. Steve Lowe - VIC - 3m0?s
5. Darren Green - VIC - 3m07s

To give you an idea of the vehicles competing, in the Top 20 after Saturday night, there was only 1 Turbo diesel and that was Chunks running an enormous amount of power for a diesel, the rest are Turbo or Supercharged Petrols and V8's.

Sorry, didn't get prologue results, let at about 1:30pm yesterday arvo.

Just to add to the damage report Mal's British and Swedish R/Rover busted a gearbox practising before the event started but had freighted another in and were ready for competition Saturday Night.

Also Greg Scanlan LWB GQ Turbo Petrol Ute didn't like the water in the prologue and, he made it to the winching point when it stalled but still didn't give up trying to start the car until the plasma broke with the weight of a dead car and had to DNF.

Yeah doing quite well, I think they finished after Saturday Night in 15th place and did a nice clean run in the Prologue on Sunday. I do know one thing, all the kiwi's are having a great time.
