Capa blower kits

Post by Grantw »

What do we all think of the capa blower kits?

http://www.capa.com.au/kits_mitsubishi.htm

Is it the price that scares most?

The kit includes absolutely everthing. Supercharger (eaton m90), brackets, piggy back ecu etc. The supercharger brand new is 3K, ecu 1K, plus 2k for the r and d and all the custom made brackets and stuff.... doesnt seem that bad to me!!

Does anyone know anyone who has bought a kit? and, Was it successful?

Are there any other kits available?

Don't know if it's a Capa kit, but this one seems OK:

Primarily price scares me away. I don't doubt the $6k is reasonable for what you get, but there's lots of things I'd prefer to spend the money on - diff locks, long range tanks, HF radio, roof over the patio...

Thats over 4k dollars US. Not overly expensive if you consider what horse power gains cost.

However if your intending on spending that money for offroading gains, it is better spent else where.

Lockers, gears, solid axle swap.

At what price does the kit need to be to get serious buyers? 2K, 3K, 4K??
Or, what would people pay for a quality blower kit?

I would pay around 3500 US for a supercharger, thats what I was quoted when I first looked into one. So I know their costs aren't astronomical. On the other hand the RPW importers in the US want to up the cost another 2k, screw them if they way to do a mark up like that.

Well in todays money that would be 5K aussie.... capa used to make a smaller kit, i think they used a powerdyne blower but it only put out 4-5psi. They were $5200. Someone told me that there was issues with em, and so they only have the eaton kit now.

I am interested in the blower, but am trying to decide whether i can justify the $$$ for the extra grunt.... Like really, when does all that power come in handy? Apart from the carpark on a saturday night...

Couldn't you get a 3.8l is it short block from mitsu for a few grand and put it underneath you 3.5 head ? i am sure i have heard of that before.
Could be wrong though. I just know the short engines from toyota and mitsu are cheap currently or were a little while back.

Personally i am a turbo person but i can tell you in any case more power just makes it a nicer ride, if you drive it daily. if its just a weekend car then maybe live with it. i Dont really know what you use it for and that makes a difference, eg towing and daily driver or weekend off raod car.

Is that from experience with the pajero kit or just a generalisation from experience from another kit? I am trying to find out of someone has actually bought and fitted the kit successfully... Apart from the capa vehicles.
