Thanks to the generosity of a departed relative, the Rocky now sports new Simex Centipedes, a new set of rear leaves and full set of urethane bushes wait to be fitted, and my factory winch is in transit from Adelaide.
Mud makes excellent toothpaste.

Great tyres and probably even better than the BF Goodridge M/T which are abit old in the tooth. I notice the Centipede has even deeper threads.

I've been using them for a while and they are great. Only thing i bitch is that the gearing feels higher now and that the car rolls down hill rahter than crawl in 1st low range.
But what ever it is it made a hell alot of difference after changing from my old worned out Bridgestone Dueler A/T where my car got stuck simply because it lacked traction. ( But i'm still very very surprised till today that i managed to out perform a Defender 90 and a Pajero with 35 inch Extreme Trekkers in a "mini valley" obstacle on those set of tyres- mainly to do with having lockers and luck)
Now i'm sure with the Centipede combined with your Detroit Locker its gonna be one excellent rig.
Only downside is u have to be extremely careful in the rain when braking and even in the dry. I crashed mine. Due to some guy shoving me behind my rig. Just need to source a set of rims and the car should go.

The winch arrived today, cost $400 plus $165 freight from Adelaide to Central Queensland.

And the tyres, they are MT's, and this is what happens if you run them too low through scrub. The rear leaves have to come out again to be reset with about 2 more inches of lift. Supposedly they had 2 inches of lift over standard, but I ended up with only 35mm of travel between the bumpstop and the axle housing.

these tyres are hella cheap tho, and they aren't the comp version. interco and BFG would wanna be better cos they're at least 1/3 more expensive again...

Hey John, another trip down under, you must love those frequent flyer points.
The tyres were at 15psi at the time, running through state forest tracks. They had about 200km on them at the time. Cost me $179 each F&B. The one pictured has since been repaired by Newsomes in Rocky, cost $44 plus $22 freight. As for performance, I really havent had much chance to try them out in mud. On road, they arnt as noisy as I thought, sand and beachwork is crap, but thats to be expected. The sidewalls on these are 2 ply polyester, so they flex well, but obviously not impervious to staking. The tread is 2 ply steel, 2 ply nylon, and 2 ply polyester. These wont get run all the time as I have a set of BFG A/T's for road work.
Winch has been fitted, but huge front overhang, and the PTO unit and drive shaft foul my present exhaust system, so I need another one. I am also looking to see if I can remount the winch and frame about 100mm further back, will involve redrilling mount holes and shortening drive shaft.
Rear leaves, went back to Dobinsons yesterday, and they claim the rear leaves they made for me cant be reset to the lift that I want, as the shackle angle will be to upright, and I could invert the shackles with axle droop. So, with the Nissan springs I had in the rear previously being an inch or so longer centre to centre, they are going to reset them with another couple of inches lift. The consiquence of this is I may have a set of Dobinsons rear springs, one week old, with a claimed 2 inch over factory set (I think its more like one inch) probably for sale. Cost was $314 the pair, sell around the $225-$250 mark, including new polyurethane bushes fitted to rear spring eye. The sale is to be confirmed after I fit the reset Nissan springs. I am heading for Bribie Island and Brissie the week before Queens Birthday W/E so if anyone is interested, I can transport them down. For Sale ad will appear in that section if it is going to happen, which should be known by next weekend.
