Best value CB in Brisbane

Post by chimpboy »

Anyone bought a UHF recently in Brisbane and can recommend a good one?

I thought this combined UHF/AM unit sounded good for $358, but surely I can do better than Dick Smith for something like this?

Image

Also dunno what I would need to spend additionally for antenna(s) if I got it, can anyone advise?

Not sure I really need one but I feel they are a bit of a safety item as well as a toy.

The Best UHF i have used is the one I own. It's a Uniden UH013 which is a 40 ch UHF and a scaner which has 40 USER progamable chanels. It also has a remote head for easy mounting. do yourself a favour and have a look at these before you buy anything. The combined UHF/ AM CB is also a good option if you are limited for space However, you need an areal that can handle the two bands which arn't cheap. Jump onto the uniden website and have a look.

I got that model unit in my patrol .. will be going into the Lux shortly .. basically I only eveer used it as a UHF, but the AM has come in handy at times as well as being a fun kinda toy ...

They are really quite small making em easy to mount .. I spent up pretty well on antenna's as well but they have never given me issues and the SWR on em was quite acceptable from factory (didn't do the UHF dunno if you can .. had an old AM SWR meter .. so I did it one day when I was bored .. )

I picked up one of the Philips FM91 models at a hamfest in Brisbane.. 25W, remote head, Police & Fire channels already in, etc, for a bit over $200 with a Uniden AM, speakers, antennas, etc thrown in..

I have one of those Uniden uh013 scanner/uhf's in my tj. Works pretty good but it can be a pain to switch over to the scanner mode. It's like the uhf/am one where you can only use one at a time - but's designed like that so police can't hace a go at you for having a scanner in your 4wd. It's excellent for police hunting & fire brigade etc. Also heard the SES disaster at the Logan River boat ramp last week while driving home

It's sweet cause the remote head is tiny and the microphone is a good size - not too big and chunky. I wanna get the VOX headset for it - apparently has a cool 'roger beep' after every transmission with it  It's not a bad radio, not as powerful as other radios but has the cool aspect and more features.
