Light-Weight Zooks?
Well then, back onto this topic... Who'd have thought the weight of a car would come up again...
Okay - here's the g-o... Still trying to engineer my car (stupid me i know), and one of the hold ups is ADR37 (Emissions)... However, if i am able to get the zook within 112kg of the curb weight of a Cappuccino (725kgs) then I should (in theory) be able to use documentation for the Cap to say that the car meets ADR37 Requirements.
if that didn't make sense - how about this:
If i make the sierra weigh 833kg or less, i don't have to do the emissions test and i am going to save a shed load of money...
1200kgs down to 833kgs - that's a fair amount of weight to loose though i'm thinking (367 kg's in fact).
Note: Curb weight of sierra is 942kgs according to Off-Road.com...

hmmmmm, hows this
loose the tyres for a set of 26in roadies (unless you want it engineered on those tires?)
alloy wheels, as narrow as possible
1 litre of fuel in tank
minimum amount of water in radiator
pull out all the vent system behind dash
remove glovebox
take bulbs outta headlights and tailights (leave only indicators and brakes)
take low range gears outta transfer
glass outta the doors (if you still have it)
lightweight seats
empty car of all junk
give it a hell of a wash underneath and inside
get rid of sound deadening
go on a diet
dunno how much that'd get ya, but it'd be close
You are very close to what i am thinking there ant.
I don't think the car weight includes the driver, but my 1200kg reading does.
winch
doors
windscreen
roll cage
junk / tools etc
stock tyres, (stock x-fer and diffs to get gearing correct too)
can all be removed... i'll be very interested to see how it close it gets.

surely there cant be more than 30/40kg in the extra bit of roof
and id say my exo is under 40kg so thats what 8okg not much! but yes it would make a difference but i dont reckon much
I don't think there would be more than 15 kilos in the roof,
1/2 kilo in the gutters, 20kilos in the right side and 20kilos in the left, 30kilos in the rear door, throw in some head linning, some bars going across the rear windows and some rear grab handles and it is a shit load of weight
Peter.
Disclaimer, all weights have been pulled out of my arse and are to be used for demonstration purposes only.

you would be surprised how much heavier they are. Extra weight in the sheetmetal, glass is quite heavy so you have 3 extra windows there. Also having the weight up higher acts like a pendulum. Once you get the weight moving it is harder to stop its swing

Ok well as you have the hardtop and access to a grinder start cutting? Then carry it all into the bathroom (mind you don't hurt your back, better make a few trips). stand on the bathroom scales and note how heavy you are. Then grab first load of stuff write weight and subtract your weight from it. Repeat as neccesary until all the bits have been weighed. Then tell us

bringin this back to the top

according to this dude here who has just cut the back off his hardtop zuk (to turn it into a soft top) he reckons it was ver light as in 45 to 60lbs
so IF my calculations are right that is 20 to 27kg plus the 2 LITTLE windows on the side and the top half of the rear door+window
id say my 30 to 40kg is lookin pretty good

Just for RedZook, haven't forgotten my intention to compare bodies (with scales), just had to change plans a bit. Will be weighing Germos h'top against my softtop. just got to wait a little bit till I can get them both up the farm, hanging from a tree..........

40kg plus another 40kg for your exo (although i reckon that is a bit much) = 80kg or a average sized man sitting above your cog (this is starting to sound very weird) is going to have an effect on the vehicles stabilty. You must agree with this. If this effect that can be nullified then is worth doing, yes. Mind you I couldn't care less about it as I also have a hard top and a exo. But it will perform differently than a soft top

Yes to turn those huge 33's
sad thing is my daily driver would out wheel your trail rig
Wahooo!!! The latest challenge has been thrown out there............ looks like Big Steve is taking off where Greg started!!
Is C.I.T.Cold still happening?
On a slightly different note, will a s/top tail gate bolt onto a h/top body? never really bothered to look......
Imagine if you put a s/top tailgate on, early soft top doors (the ones without the regulators or glass) and removed the side glass.......admittantly you might as well have a soft top, but didn't big steve go through this at one stage on his old rig?

Ok (I couldn't access the first page properly) Still 30 -80kg is heavier. I think we are arguing for the sake of it. I said a hardtop is heavier and you have also said it is heavier. i never argued about the amount but in my mind 30kg - 8okg is alot of extra weight on a car that starts at only 900kg. Almost 10% of extra weight up high.
