Engine Worries..

Post by zukin »

ive got a 89 sierra done 147,000k's and probably the last 7,000k's its been giving me grief. It was going threw heaps of fuel and oil and producing this black carbon sorta thing out the exhuast therefore black stuff all over my back door. I fixed the timing it was slightly out its sorted the fuel consuption but still the black stuff still all over the back door i put new spark plugs changed the oil new airfilter still didnt work the carbie seems to be working ok. Still goes threw heaps of oil. Different ppl say its the carbie other ppl say its rings no one can really tell me whats happening. Maybe someone else has had the same thing ????
any sugestions???
Cheers

Hi Browney,

I own a 84 Suzi Sierra I had much the same problem. My car was using too much fuel I was going through 2 tanks of fuel per week as well as it was chewing oil. I would be standing at the lights and a big puff of smoke came out for no reason. So I got some carby cleaner and spayed it in. Took out the air filter and sprayed it in from there while I had the engine running. You will need 2 people for this. Now that I did that no smoke also my fuel lasts for nearly 2 weeks.

A few ppl have tried to make me put a new carbie in but i dont want to do that if i can get away with it. This black stuff comming outta the exuast did that stop when you sprayed it cause its getting really think slightly embarresing aswell at times..

Hey,

It only costs about $10 it come in a can like hairspray girl terms lol. And yeah it did take it away the smoke and yep I know how embarrising it is. I just turned my music up more so I couldnt hear anyone complaining. You can also get a liquid carbie cleaner its sort of called that and you poor it just before you fill up with petrol it it cleans through that way. Wynns the brand was go to supercheap Auto best place to get stuff like that. Let me know how you go!

They are Nulon products. The Spray is in a normal aerosol type can, called Carbie Cleaner or something similar. You take your airfilter out, spray the inside of the intake. Then start the car, it may take a little, the spray basically tends to make the engine stall.

Easy to do with two people but you could just set the choke a bit. What I did with Maagster was have her rev the engine to about 3000rpm, then I would spray the carbie cleaner into the air intake until it would almost stall and then stop...and let it get back up to normal revs. Kept doing this.

It was amazing the amount of smoke and crap that came out but man it runs better after doing it. We also put a bottle of Nulon petrol cleaner in with a tank of petrol.

All up shouldn't cost more than $20-$30 for both products total. We got them from supercheap.

well i went to supercheap and i got some carbie clear unsure of the brand its up in the shed but i did that put it in the carbie started to stall she was hot as its like 40 degrees here today so i was bit worried at first but thought bugger it kept going. And remarkably it dont seem to be doing it anymore and its running alot better even sounds better from the exhuast couldnt believe it all. It cleaned all inside the carbie up great i didnt use much of that spay i was alittle worried bout it at first so ill put alittle more in just to make sure its fixed properly.
i was the same with the abuse from fellow drivers drive faster and turn the stereo up to give em something else to complain bout.
anyways thanks for the help ya just saved me a new carbie

Not quite sure on cost but go to your local machanic and see how much it would cost to get cleaned that is another way but more expensive. I think they steam it to clean right inside. But see hoe it goes with what you have done so far

Zukin, best Daihatsu wrecker I know :

Daihatsu's constantly wrecking, Feroza, Rocky, Charades, Sirions, Applauses, new stock coming every week DL-11866 Daihatsu Wreckers DUNHEVED 02-9673 3000

The AT's are on Heathers zook and looking real nice now, very slight rubbing on the front at full lock, nothing a little trim can't fix :) I can't believe how well these BFG AT's are wearing. I had them for 12 months and gave them heaps, still at least 90% tread on em! Should suit the zuk nicely for the interim. Last major repairs to do are fix the front axle leak (new seals required, passenger side at least) and new shocks. I think it may also need new transfercase mount bushes, just have to have a look. Then it should be ready to rock n roll.

Cam, will have to see what the plans are for this weekend, I get paid montly so budget is a bit tight for another 2 weeks :| But ya never know! Will talk it over with the minister of finance (Heather).
