Hey Guy's does anybody have any info or web sites on making a 350 Holley not flood when on inclines. I have extended the breather higher and forward with rubber hose, and am just now making a flatened tube to mount inside of the fuel bowl above the float ( to extend the valve block vent forward Thanks Glen ).
Anything is a go cos it does not work at all now :( :(

STEP 1 MOVE THE AIR CLEANER UP FROM THE CARB AND PLACE 6MM AIR LINE IN THE VENT TUBES SO THEY REACH WITHIN 5MM OF THE AIR CLEANER TOP.
MY AIR FILTER IS SPACED UP 50MM SO THE TUBES (AIR LINE) IS ABOUT 100MM LONG (6MM AIR LINE FITS JUST NICE) ITS THE TYPE OF TUBE USED ON TRUCK AIR SYSTEMS.
STEP 2 YOU NEED TO PUT A VENT TUBE IN THE FRONT BOWL, I MADE MINE FROM 10 MM ALLOY PIPE CRUSHED TO FIT IN THE METERING BLOCK. THIS CAN TAKE SOME TIME TO DO AND IS A LITTLE FIDDLEY, I GLUED THE TUBE INTO THE METERING BLOCK WITH A QUALITY EPOXY 2 PAC MIX. THE VENT TUBE SHOULD FINISH ABOUT 5MM FROM THE FRONT OF THE BOWL.
THIS IS WHAT MOST PEOPLE DO TO FIX HOLLEYS BUT THIS BY ITSELF IS NOT ENOUGH. THE HOLLEY WILL RUN AT ABOUT 25DEGREES ONLY AND WONT LIKE SIDE ANGLES.
STEP 3 TAKE THE FRONT BOWL AND PUT A MARK ABOUT 8MM FORWARD AND 8MM BELOW THE FLOAT INSPECTION PORT. HERE YOU WILL DRILL A HOLE (I USE A 5/16 FITTING HERE) YOU CAN DRILL ANY SIZE AS LONG AS ITS CONSISTENT WITH THE SIZE OF THE FITTING AND WONT FOWL WITH THE INSPECION PORT.
STEP 4 FROM HERE YOU NEED TO RUN A FUEL LINE TO AN ELECTIC FUEL PUMP AND ON TO THE FUEL TANK. THE FUEL PUMP NEEDS TO BE MOUNTED WITH THE INLET ABOUT 30-40MM HIGHER THAN THE FITTING IN THE BOWL. I HAVE MY PUMP ON A TOGLE SWITCH. I TURN THE PUMP ON WHEN I COME TO A HILL OR BAD SIDE ANGLE AND IT WORKS VERY WELL
AN EXTRA FITTING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BOWL WILL MAKE THIS SYSTEM ALLMOST PREFECT.
REMEMBER THE STANDARD CARB WILL BE AT ITS WORST ON A STEEP HILL BECAUSE THE FLOAT IN THE FRONT BOWL OPENS FULLY ON AN UPHILL OF ONLY 15DEGREES. I HAVE NOT WORKED OUT HOW TO HAVE THE PUMP KICK AUTOMATICLY, I HOPE TO PICK SAMS BRAINS FOR AN ANSWER. I HAVE A FEW IDEAS IM GOING TO WORK ON.
OH AND THE RETURN PUMP MUST PUMP FASTER THAN THE SUPPLY PUMP, I USE A HOLLEY BLUE FOR THE RETURN PUMP MOUNTED ON THE FIREWALL

People used to say injection sux to, because they did not know how to tune and maintain the systems, but does injection suck?
Have a look at the carby most all Modified street/race V8's use that are not running injection.
When the only choice was mechanical injection and a Holley, alot of people still chose Holleys.
A Holley is the best set and forget carburettor on the market!.
Endlessly modifiable, Parts everywhere, Dead simple to set up and tune.
What else you want from a carb?
It does have a problem with inclines, but it was not built for 4WD's.
Can be fixed, as posted above, although thats an elaborate solution.

Find another carb that fits on the same pattern as the 350. Or get an adapter. For off road applications a 6 cyl carb from a landcruiser or patrol would shyt all over a 350 Holley. Why start modifying a cr@p carb when you can get a cheap one that works out of the box?

I'm running a 600 Holley on my Chev and I haven't had a problem with it yet. Haven't been playin in the real serious stuff but it hasn't stalled on me yet.
Try an altitude kit. The guy I bought the holley off had a couple that he had found in them and they seem to work quite well.

Since there is really only 2 bowl designs for the holley carb you have to consider what the application is and how you going to mount it.
As everybody knows there is the convertional type bowl where the pivot is off to one side and the float pivots accordingly.
Appart from the obvious tricks that have stated above there is always the direction in which the carb is mounted..
Normally its mounted north/south...but east west may have better results for some applications..
There is also the "A" or cathedral bowl. Where there is a ruddy great float.( brass or polypropmethylene), that equally mounts in the middle of the bowl with a float that extends side to side of the bowl....These type of bowl may help you in your quest..( as the fuel increases toward the back of the carby..its will maintain a lower feul level due to the nature of the design
Alternatively, Slightly lowering the float level and readjusting the carbs internal settings (air bleeds and jetting) to compensate for the lower fuel level may benifet you as well..
PS: DONT MODIFY AIRBLEED DIMENTIONS UNLESS YOU ARE A HOLLEY MOD GOD AND HAVE THE APPROPRIATE JET DRILLS AND KNOW YOUR SHEIT!
Lastly..the was a "surge kit" that i read about some years ago which had a intermediate block and fuel resistant foam inserted into the assembly to stop splash or ill desired effects from flooding the carb.....
I still prefer the slightly lower float level and "slosh tubes" installed into the main jets..

Allow me to rephrase.
Find another carb that fits on the same pattern as the potent Holley 350. Or get an adapter. For off road applications a 6 cyl carb from a landcruiser or patrol would probably perform better than the legendary 350 Holley, but only because those woosie Japanese were designed for 4x4. Why start modifying one of the greatest carbs ever made when you can get a cheap one that works out of the box?

Do some searches on Jeeps unlimited and POR you will find that the recommended off road carb for the 258 is the motor craft. Should be plenty of them in wreckers around the place too, and I can not imagine a rebuild kit being too much.
That new holley truck avenger looks alright too has anyone tried them yet ?

I have an Edelbrock Torker II with Holley square-bore pattern. I had to use an adapter to get the QJET on, but because the Holley pattern is symmetrical the adapter fits either way. It made it rather easy.
If your inlet manifold has a QJET pattern you could use an aluminium riser block and grind its ports to get better flow when you flip the QJET. The secondaries won't work as well, but 99% of the time you will be running on your primaries only.
