Transfer case oil leak
Ok, its a noobie question, but:
Got oil comming out of the transfer case where it meets the rear prop shaft. Is it just one seal, or a pair etc?
Havent reaplced this one before, so just asking before I pull stuff apart.

Its only one seal but you will prob find that the tailshaft flange has a groove in it as well and may be causing the prob.
This is an easy fix by just perchasing a Speedy Sleeve at the same time you buy the seal.
Any bearing shop should be able to supply both and also give directions on fitting the sleeve.This is a simple instalation.
Sleeve should be around $30 and the seal should be around $10.
Just unbolt the tailshaft then undo the big nut holding the flange on and tap the flange off with a hammer.
Pry the seal out with a big flat screwdriver.
Tap the new seal in carefully with a small hammer.
Install the sleeve to the flange.
Re-install the flange and tighten the nut back up.

The sleeve is exactly what it describes it is a very thin stainless steel sleeve that is pressed over the flange seal surface to repair the groove that has been worn in it.
It is very common for the toyota flanges to have a groove worn in them.
You very rarely have any more leaking probs again once these have been fitted.

Just locktite the barstard on when you do it tho...surface iregularity's sometimes allow oil to pass under the sleeeve....and it still continues to leak....

oil leak
I replaced the same oil seal a couple of weeks ago. The big nut that is covered up by the tail shaft requires a big socket (31-32-33mm) and is quite easily undone if you leave the everything in gear (not neutral) Apart from that it is exactly as ruff said.
Mine was leaking quite badly and the new seal fixed it without one of those sleeves.
