Jeremy,
I would have thought that the front end of the car ie, steering and panhard rod would have a lot more influence on the way a car drove on the road. You seem to think it drives pretty good just wondering what you did to the front of the car to make it drive so well. I have been in a few coil conversion hilux/4runners and they never seem to drive very well at all but i guess a car as tall as yours can't be expected to handle too well.

Jerry,
I haven't read the whole thread so I may be asking something you've already answered, what have you done about the fuel tank :?:

Denso, The front wasn't done by me, but will be in the next six months or so. Chaos4x4 set the front up, and due to the stock back end [at the time] being stretched to it's limits it drove VERY badly, steered all over the place etc. But now with the back end done and the springs being a bit too stiff it drives pretty damn straight. I believe it took chaos a few tries before they were happy with the panhard rod location/angle and steering arm setup.
I plan on changing it to four or 5 link, most likely with longer coilovers, but that can wait for now, i can't wait to get it out and drive it properly again.

Supra, The fuel tank is currently a 25lt boat fuel tank, sitting in the back of the wagon, with lines plumbed through the floor. I was going to put a GQ tank in there but without a body lift it hung too low [yes nick you were right], so now i'm going for a custom aluminium tank that'll either be inside or slotted nicely between the rails at the back.
Cheers, Jeremy

Looking good Jeremy.
Just a silly question where are you gonna drive it ????
Rigs like that will usually go much further than what the driver will.
Down here in Vic I just don't know too many tracks where that beast would be trully tested to it's limit, it would just be too easy, not much fun.
At least in the Bishi I know I'm in for some hard work and sphincter clenching action.
I've thought long and hard about a SAS and decided for our trail system down here I just can't justify the expense to be able to drive just a couple more tracks.

That's not a silly question frank, it's a good one. I think it'll mostly be macca's, maybe KFC if i'm feeling a little adventurous.

well the where to drive question gets harder every month as more tracks close or the challenge gets taken out of them by the dreaded 'rock stackers'. Menai is still a challenging place, with plenty of out of the way tit bits, but access will only get harder and harder, i will most certianly be at the next clean up day doing whatever i can. There are a few other tracks around here [within 1hr] that are still good, the mountians has some hardcore stuff, i've got a mate who owns lithgow 4wd adventures and he knows all the good shite.
I think comps will be wheer it gets alot of drive time, there just isn't enough of them [in NSW] to keep the momentum going throughout the year, and most of them have mud and rocks combined, and i hate mud. I was very dissapointed the howes valley challenge got canned, was going to be a good one [again].
I also have no qualms about heading up to queensland for a week or two for some decent driving, but that ends up being rather expensive.
I've also got a mate who's owns a farm down at golbourn, with some pretty decent rocks on it. I've been meaning to talk to him about setting up some tracks there, even if it cost us 10 bucks per car per day it would be worth it.
i don't know if that's answered your question frank, hope it has. cheers :)

Hehe thanks Jeremy
Track closure is a serious issue and one that has severely influenced my decision as to which way I go with my rig or even a different vehicle.
The same thing is happening down here and if we are not careful standard IFS vehicles with all terrains will drive the remaining tracks as they have been graded/closed  I just don't know how we can stop it, the 4wd Association is helping but it's just delaying the inevitable.
I don't want to go into the comp arena, just aint got the $ for that, so I'm stuck with just our local tracks.
I was dissappointed about Porters, I really wanted to have a crack at that but Peter Good got his front locker first and then they closed it.
But Menai is on the cards once I do a few more things.
Good luck with everything.

Sounds like we will have to come down and visit you Carlton... I'm up for any excuse to head down that way for a drive.
