gas tank not filling

ok first time ive owned something on gas and i filled it up a week or so ago from dead empty (i ran outta gas and petrol) and it only took 56l and its a 100l tank (i beleive) the guage on the tank only says its 50% full and i got nfi how to make it fill up any more only thing i can think of is that the filler point is mounted 1/2 way up the tank so maby the pressure is going back down the line to the afl or some shit i dunno im tempted to unbolt the filler and just run it higher and go see if it will fill up so then i can relocate it somewhere

anyone got some ideas

The filler position doesn;t matter, the filler line is a one way pressure valve, when the pressure in the filler line reaches 300psi (IIRC) it shuts off (i.e. when the tank has filled to 80%. )

the tank should have a compliance plate on it inside the gage area that should have its full capacity and water capacity. Sounds to me like you have an 80L tank which would make it a 60L fill.

Look at the plate and then you will know otherwise give me the dimensions of the tank and I will compare it to the 80 L tank I have

The orientation of the tank is critical to gain a compete fill.
Different manufacture's have different ways of aiding this positioning.
Some have welded feet which have too be level at the bottom,some have a level bubble in the gauge and some have a cross on or near the id plate to indicate the horozontal and vertical position.

if that is so i think your gonna be spot on im planing on dropping the tank this week as its not attatched very well so ill have a play while im there

Spot on, another thing is that depending on the style of tank the gauge housing needs to be at either 3 or 9 o'clock and there is ususally a big welded seam that has to be at 12 o'clock

ok i removed the tank today and yep its not mounted level and i cant make it level without lowering it so im gonna put in another tank i have that i will be able to get level just hope all the connections are the same

now is it possible to transfer gas between the tanks easily ive got 2 full gas tanks sitting down the side of my shed

Put back 1st tank, use fuel, install 2nd tank..
