Ive been experimented with taking the sway bars off but im getting to much flex and am rubbing gaurds....Ive got 3 inch susp,2 inch body and 35 simex et s. Was thinking about putting them back on and just lengthen the sway bar supports. Any body got any other ideas..... shane

im running a GQ with 6" spring lift, and i run no swaybars, and love it, okay its definatly no sports car, but i dont mind, i get a fair bit of tyre rub in the rear guards, but, once again, im not fussed, just respray it evry now and then.

I run the thin early GQ bars on mine. Have done on 2 GQ s (Mavs) now.
I get good articulation and can reach bump stops on full artic.
Ive extended the links at each corner .
Rides good on bitumen and off rd.
Passed the engineers swerve test.

I agree with Ozzy,

I've got a 4" sus lift and 2" body lift and trimmed the rear guards and don't rub the 35 MTR's at all with no sway bars. On road it ain't no sprts car, but who'd drive it like one??

Lose the bars and slow down on road.

Would it help havin toyota offset rims??

as they put the tyres an inch outwards (correct me if wrong)

Less rubbing??

Swaybars in my opinion arnt needed if you have a good spring shock combo.

I had none when I first got my Mav. It was great for the offroad stuff, but got scary when at speed on the highway on the way to Landcruiser Mountain park. Particuarly over the range. I found that the rest of the guys could take the corners at a "normal" speed where I had to slow down a fair bit. So I put the front one back on with new links made from some booker rod and a couple of heim joints. There is no discernable difference off road and it now feels safer on the black stuff.

hey guys , sorry ,yeah its a 93 gq lwb, and im running the toyota offset rims. Also its duel fuel so i have that huge belly tank just infront of the rear diff and on full flex the top trailing arm hits the tank aswell. Think im gunna extend the sway bar connecters for now to the length that it just misses every thing. thanks shane...

Get the tank notched to crear the trailng arm.

ask around about getting the tank trimmed so that the upper trailing arm dosnt hit and think about extending your bump stops or weld a 1 inch plate onto the top off your diff where the bump stops touch.

I have a sway bar on my Mav with some disconects for on the trail — works fine for me. Rides better on road — especialy with 7inch lift + 3inch body lift and flexes well off road once disconected.
Mine uses the thin sway bars off an 89 Mav/Nissan but I was wondering if beafier ones are available. I think mine are around 15mm dia. If there are stiffer sway bars, which year models were they on?

I'm running 35's — the 3inch body lift is just there to add clearence under the sills and allow for flex in the suspension.

Easier to find on GU, all have stiffer ones. GQs varied only a little in size.

talking to brent from wizard yesterday and he has just sourced a swaybar from a series 3 GU which are much thicker than earlier models and he is gunna put it on his blue ute with the 8" lift and five link for high speed work.
he then just uses the disconnects and has the best of both worlds.

Top arms hit tank due to shock droop not swaybars.
Remove tank go to Brown Davis or Longranger and get it modded. BD did mine a few years ago for $80. When I had a gas Mav.

Thanks bazzle , yeah been playing about again today , and think its a good idea to modify the tank because the trailing arm really leans on it . Flex is great without the sway bars on though......shane
