God of Magnificant Ideas!
Used to get a lot of enquiries about this type of conversion ....... here's the best advise I used to give out .....
Hunt the wreckers yards and buy a shell type that you require,..... then just bolt it on to ya chassis !!!......
99% of the work is eliminated, and the engineers wont have to look twice because its allready a certified body design from the factory !!

Only problem is, he wants an extra cab. If you see any extra cab GQ bodies around let me know Kingy

Kingy is throwing information around like a hand of five card stud... again...
I reckon Creative Conversions would be a good place to try too.
They have a website by the way.
And they do my all time favourite GQ conversion:
They do a dual cab GQ as well but it ain't cheap:
Or cheaper without the extended wheelbase:
Good luck and keep us posted.

This is not legal advice.

I want to get rid off panels for extreme winch challenges and short course,s as well as getting rid of weight so the single cab or extra cab or even maybe the dual cab might be the way to go.It seems the cheapest way to go is the single cab swap or $3800 for the dual cab or $5900 for the extra cab then get it spray painted and then do the inside trim and add the windows. To go the dual cab might not accomplish anything in weight wise but it is less in panel damage. Then you have to consider all the bar work and the tray.cheers.

I've done the same extra cab conversion
i have converted my gq wagon to a ute. i bought a mq ute rear as ther are flat, no ugly bubble, from archafield wreckers for $200. easy as pie, took like 3 weeks inc paint in ford blueprint blue. did it all myself and it cost just over $1500 all up inc paint and approval. go to the mobil servo in bris might be mt gravatt area can't remember, the mechanic there has heaps of codes. he did a seat number reduction and a panel van to ute on mine for $135. the biggest pain was the dot. the utes 3rd party costs more so you have to go to your ins company and change it there first than take the receipts to the dot. why i don't know! email me if you want more details, i even have the where to cut measurements. i am on the sunny coast in buderim come have a look before the grinding starts! do it yourself, its noth worth spending close to what the wagons worth on ute conversions!!
